Edvard Munch bequeathed a large portion of his work to the city before his death in 1940, and this museum is the result. It contains books, paintings, drawings, scuptures and letters. The Munch Museums have changing exhibitions. Please see website for updated exhibition program.

While Munch's portraiture is wonderful and worth visiting, we were very disappointed not to have his major well-known works on display as well. There are four versions of The Scream, but none was on show here as someone had selected lesser known works for the...More

Well it is what it is, all work by Munch. The scream isn't here, we walked around twice before finding out it was in the national gallery. The artwork shown is all non permanent. Free with the oslo pass.

This museum holds large number of Munch paintings, but none of the famous ones, like the Scream or Madonna. It had the worst audio guide I have used in a museum, which was doubly frustrating b/c the museum had almost no descriptions in English abut...More

Interesting if you do not expect to see the most famous pieces (i.e. the scream). But it illustrates the different phases of the artist quite well. You'll also find additional installations that change over time.

Interesting Museum, but surprisingly few items on display. There are only five or six rooms. They are well done and there are movies in the video room that play all day giving lots of background. But I would have like to see more of his...More

Munch's complex personality contrasts with his simple and powerful art. It is is displayed across the nation in several important venues, this museum is th broadest and deepest of them all. Important point, the iconic "Scream" and "Madonna" are in the National Gallery, not here,...More

You must pay 100kr to see 15 painting of M. Munch and one video! Oslo are perhaps an expensive city but not at this point. It is very loosing time. If you want to see some painting of Munch, go to the national gallery on...More

While "Into the woods" was an interesting arrangement and assortment of Munch's work (which, except for "the Scream", which is not located here, I was pretty much unfamiliar with until going to this Museum).
