About
The collection is a varied selected content of Norwegian, Nordic and foreign bibles. The collection contains cultural treasures. Some of the most rare is an exemplar of Gustav Vasas bible from 1541, an original page from The Gutenberg bible, a latin bible from 1487 and handwritten pages from around 1250 . The museum will also show historical materials from other collections.

Great Museum - History - Incredible Collection of Bibles - Fun and Informative
Had a great time visiting this museum in Oslo. A huge collection of Bibles that run from extremely rare to those you would find in churches today. Thoughtfully planned out, the exhibits are maintained by country and era. There are Bibles you can touch and feel and others that are safely locked away behind glass. Don't miss the page from a Gutenberg Bible! The artwork from some of the older Bibles is amazing. Expected to visit for a short amount of time and ended up spending over an hour browsing the details of each exhibit. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Not a huge museum, but there are two levels to hold all of the exhibits and a fun booth where you can try using an old fashioned quill pen that was used to scribe Bibles in the past. Surprisingly fun and informative. Recommended for anyone with an interest in history, books, religion, and of course Bibles!

    Bible Museum
Hubby and I decided to come into this museum as it was en-route to another area of town we were visiting. It has a very impressive collection of bibles from different countries, regions and eras. Some of the very old bibles towards the back of the premises are in impeccable condition amazing quality, just to see the detail and precision that was put into making these holy artefacts from back in the day was astounding. The visit was made even more interesting and enjoyable by Simen and Mikkel who were able to give further information on different sections and specific artefacts they are housing within the museum. It really is worth making a trip in here if you feel like visiting something a little bit different and educational.

    Highly recommended
In many way a unique museum containing absolutely amazing items, including a page from the Gutenberg Bible. My guide Henrik was very knowledgeable and you could tell he was passionate about his work. You will learn a lot about the history of the Nordic countries and their cultural heritage. The museum should be an exiting site for children: besides adorable mini-Bibles, they will be able to see how a printing press works. Good museum shop! (See the picture below).

Testament to a collector’s passion, it’s a superb collection of the Holy Book.

With over 5000 bibles already in the collection and more arriving every year from around the world, it is unique for its range in Scandinavia.

Some venerable volumes are here, such as those belonging to Christian III and Fredrik II. An impressive printing press is on display with examples of the typeset used.

Regarding as the most sacred and precious artefact is the one page from a Guttenberg Bible printed 1450 – 55.

In preparing to visit Oslo, I read nothing about this amazing museum, and discovered it only by accident after arriving. It turned out to be the highlight of the trip. The collection is impressive, but it is the guide and other people there that make it special. The museum is not really about religion—rather, it brings to life the inspirational stories of the inspired people who made writing, translating, printing, and disseminating the Bible to every culture in every language. This is a great museum. And they offer a great photo opportunity too. Don’t miss this place.

I had a great time at the museum! We had a guided tour through the museum, and the guide was very knowledgeable. The display was very interesting, with Bibles and Bible history from different Nordic countries. It’s impressive that the museum is driven only by people working volunterly. I would highly recommend visiting this unique and interesting Bible museum!

My partner and I had the most wonderful experience here a few days ago. Though it may seem small from the outside, this museum seems to keep going and is packed with amazing information and beautiful bibles. We arrived, unplanned, and a lovely staff member (I've forgotten her name, but she was Danish and had curly hair), took us around on a tour and talked, in perfect English, about the artefacts and their importance historically, linguistically and socially. She was thorough and clearly extremely passionate which made the experience all the more valuable. I'd come back in a heartbeat and would encourage everyone to visit this intriguing little place.

This is a very special museum. Jan was an excellent guide and the museums follows a very interesting line of thought. It focus it’s mainly on the Bible history on Nordic countries and I liked it doesn’t impose any religious ideas. It states only historical facts and data. It’s surprising and sad that it’s not supported by any foundation which could mean it can end in its closing

Great experience! The guides are volunteers who are incredibly passionate about theology and the history of the Christian church in Scandinavia. They walked us through virtually all of the Bibles in their collection (including a copy of the Gutenberg bible.) It was really cool seeing exhibits of Bibles translated into each of the Nordic languages and comparing the translations. Plus, you also get to dress up as a 16th-century monk, complete with robe and tonsure, which was awesome! You don't have to be religious and/or Christian to appreciate their collection. The Bibles tell stories not just of Christendom, but also of nationalism, empire and European culture.

This museum is an absolute hidden gem in Oslo. The guided tour by Simen was a delightful experience. He was very helpful and knowledgeable. The tour was highly informative, and I not only learned about the Bible but also gained insights into the brief history of Nordic countries and the dynamics between them. Though not a huge museum, the guided tour takes more than an hour, so plan your trip accordingly. You might need extra time to look around a bit more after the tour as well.

A hidden gem in Oslo. Low traffic and the staffs and guide person is super friendly and knowledgeable. The collection is enormous and impressive. Planed to stay for only 30 mins but ended up doubling the time. Also a nice neighborhood to hang around.

A very pleasant visit. I was there on Thursday with Oslo Pass. I had a lovely lady as a guide, although they are not always available. It is worth adding that all who work there are volunteers and create a nice atmosphere. I would also like to thank the gentlemen from the reception for a nice welcome and conversation. The exhibits are very interesting, and even more so the history associated with them. Minus for the lack of descriptions with the bibles in English.

Lovely place and friendly staffs! I saw different possibilities of the bible, with pictures, with modern art, with different sizes or materials... You can see the bible history of the five Nordic countries and others. They will change some exhibits regularly. You will know more than the bible with the company of free and knowledgeable guides.
