Chase the Aurora was an amazing adventure and many thanks to Geir and his professionalism and knowledge to make this tour a great experience to me and my wife. We drove to an open area just about 20 minutes outside of Tromsø and not a single cloud in the sky. The temperature outside was -15C and our guide explained to us all the tips and experiences with the Northern lights. Served a really good hot chocolate to warm up the night and kept the good mood all the time until the Aurora finally showed up! Many great pictures from this adventure were sent to us in the next day! Really recommend Aurora Photo Guide in the Northern Lights Chase experience

During my recent trip to Norway, I selected three different Aurora tours - this trip with Geir was by far the best and was the true highlight of my holiday!!

Not only did Geir travel a fair distance to ensure we had clear skies, he also offered invaluable help with the camera and tripod settings which resulted in the most amazing photographs of the Northern Lights. My fiends and family are blown away with some of the pictures I've been able to share with them. Being a photography novice, I definitely wouldn't have been able to capture the same shots without his professional help and support.

I really felt that Geir personalised this trip for us, he was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and did everything he could to make this a really memorable experience, including showing us pictures of the Northern Lights that he had taken on previous occasions.

I would definitely recommend this tour and guide to any of my friends and family. His passion for photography and the Northern Lights was evident, the memory of the Aurora on 17th March 2015 will remain with me for ever!

Thanks so much Geir :-))

I am surprised that Geir's tours aren't ranked higher on tripadvisor (to be fair there are so many operators it can be mind boggling). He may not have the swankiest website or the most number of reviews on tripadvisor but I would strongly recommend Geir if you want a small group experience for a reasonable price (we did our research and most other small group operators charge a fair bit more). Having gone with 3 different NL tour operators in Tromso, I would recommend him for the following reasons
- He is very experienced and knowledgeable about where and when the NL will show up. It is almost uncanny how the NL will show up after he brings us to each spot and we get our cameras ready.
- His vehicle is comfortable and he uses a microphone so those in the back seats can hear what he is saying.
- He is dedicated and prepared to bring us to quite a few different spots for viewing, even after we were successful in the first two spots we went.
- He helped us to look at our camera settings and make the appropriate adjustments.
-He will take pictures of the NL and portraits of you and send it to you by soft copy at no additional costs. His pictures are well composed and realistic (no overly long exposure to get a super green but unrealistic shot)

Geir is a guy with a lot of knowledge about taking very good pictures of northern lights, but he wasn‘t interested at all in the needs of his guests. You had to ask after a thermal suit, he seemed a bit annoyed, he had a bus, with a broken door, little heating and minus 22 degrees Celcius. That was one of the worst evenings we had during our holiday. But we saw Northern lights at ca. 2:30 a.m. that was true. We did another tour two days later with another company, it has been a much better experience, the guides there were more interested in their guests.

I went for an Aurora Chase with 2 different companies during my stay here and was more impressed with this even though it is the 'less popular' one as compared to the other - both with the same price point. I shall list down what I loved about this.

1. It is a small group, therefore we have a more personalised experience and also 1 on 1 expertise with the camera.

2. Loved the mini workshop that was held in the office before heading out for the tour. It definitely gave me a more visual understanding of how the northern lights is formed as compared to a verbal explanation.

3. As for the other company, I had to pay about 350NOK for a portrait. Whereas for this tour the photos are already included in the package which would be sent via WeTransfer.

Had a good time, thank you Geir for the experience. :)

The weather wasn't kind to us on the night but Geir tried his hardest to find the northern lights for us
In the end I managed to get some passable pictures . So overall a great night . The hot chocolate and cookies was very welcome after a cold night

My wife and I had the pleasure of successfully hunting down the Green Lady with Aurora Photo Guide last week and it was the experience of a lifetime. The weather throughout the week was very unpredictable and we had already had two unsuccessful attempts with other tours that ended in disappointment due to snow and cloud cover. So our trip with Geir was a last chance saloon on our final night in Tromso, and thankfully the lights and Geir both delivered an experience we will forever treasure.

You can't judge a tour based on the weather or whether or not the aurora appears on the night, but what you can judge them on is how they respond to these variables. Geir knew that Tromso and the coast was going to be cloudy that evening, so we headed inland all evening and the plan worked perfectly with two quite lengthy breaks in the cloud that treated us to stunning streaks of green lights dancing around the sky. We had only been driving for a little while when Geir spotted the aurora and quickly pulled in to the nearest available back-road so we could all get out as quickly as possible and marvel at the lights. Geir is genuinely passionate about the aurora and photography and will stop at nothing to give you the best experience possible. This was in stark contrast to another rival tour we previously tried, which only seemed interested in taking our money and didn't care a jot about us seeing the northern lights.

You are at the mercy of the weather no matter which tour you use, but the difference is that Geir is a consummate professional, a truly nice guy, his tour costs a lot less than others and you will maximise your chances of having the best possible northern lights experience by using the Aurora Photo Guide tour. Bonus points: the hot chocolate and cookies Geir provides are top notch, and just what the doctor ordered when you're stood out in the wilds of arctic norway at minus temperatures!

This was definitely the highlight of my trip. Geir, the guide, was friendly, knowledgeable and offered his advice to all camera users on how to get the best photos. He regularly checked his phone for weather reports to make sure we were in the best location to view the aurora. He drove to a few locations to get the beautiful Norwegian landscapes with the green lights dancing above. The reflections on the snow and fjords were amazing. Geir picked a group of us up in the centre of Tromso, then dropped us off at our individual hotels at the end. The free cookies, tea/coffee/hot chocolate were very welcomed on what was a chilly night. Geir will answer all your questions and will send you the pictures of your evening via e-mail. Book your chase with Geir now, and you will not be disappointed!

The internet seems to fail to tell people that those bright streaks of green light are nonexistent to the human eye. Most of the time it may be a greenish gray cloud. Then through the magic of professional long exposure cameras and photoshop, it all comes alive.
Going to Tromso just to see the northern lights is akin to going to Brazil to catch a rainbow because the probability is higher.
By all means come to Tromso, but temper your expectations of the northern lights by A LOT. Yes, it's nature, it's unpredictable. But recent social media has made it look like you can see those beautiful images with your naked eye and that is NEVER the case. And the tour guides DON'T tell you this, they are just happy to sell you drivel.
Now about this particular tour guide. I have more fondness for snake oil salesmen honestly.
To see the lights, you need 1) Aurora activity and 2) CLEAR skies (no clouds). Forget snow or rain, not even clouds. Look up the apps that predict both (especially overhead cloud percentages - anything above 20% is a waste of time), and book your tour or go yourself depending on what you see there.
These tour guides skirt around this question. They act like they won't give up, so they drive you around for hours and hours, into Finland, "searching" for the northern lights when they know fully well you will not see squat. However they are still all too happy to take your money and call it bad weather. I call that a poor unethical dishonest business practice, to take money for a service you know you cannot offer. If you know the weather is bad, why not cancel the tour?
In my experience with this company, the first night we were hopeful. But after 8 hours of on/off the bus in frigid temperatures, some cookies and tea and squinting in the darkness in horrible snowy weather, we were driven back. The second night I wanted to go again, to try again.I got offered a poor discount. The weather conditions were not better. It took a lot of prodding to get them to admit that the weather was bad and it was very unlikely. So I did not go the second night.
And even then, they still took a poor tour group on the tour! As I said, happy to sell you snake oil.
I recommend, don't book ahead. Watch the weather and the activity closely, and book that day if it looks good. And even then, book with another company, one that is honest.

With so many options available for northern lights tours, it was difficult to decide which company to go with. I found Aurora Photo Guide on Viator and went with it. Seeing the northern lights was something I had always wanted to experience and I got to experience them thanks to our awesome guide, Geir.

Before we set out to chase the lights, Geir gave us a workshop on camera settings and even told us about the route we would be taking. It was great having someone who is passionate about the tour and willing to take us where we needed to see the "Green Lady". Thermal suits and boots were provided to those who needed them. And we were also provided with tripods.

The skies in Tromso weren't so clear and he explained that we may need to travel farther out, north into Finland. And we did. It was -14 when we arrived to a suitable spot which was thankfully not flooded with other groups chasing the lights. It was "chilly" but everyone got so excited when we began noticing the lights.

I am happy with the experience and would love to go again someday. If I had had more time, I would have gone on another tour. I liked it that much.
