About Enjoy the Arctic
It has been said that it is a privilege to see the "Lights" dancing on the night sky of the Northern Hemisphere. The few lucky of us that do have this wonderful opportunity , never seize to be amazed by the wonders of the Northern Polar Nights. Seeing the Aurora Borealis should be one of those things one must do before ending their journey on this planet. Since my passions revolve around photography, skiing, fishing and I am always seeking for new adventures, I thought I might offer my knowledge and the experience I've gained so far to those of you who are interested in Arctic outdoor activities. I am Andrei and if you are visiting Tromsoe I would be more than happy to offer you my services. My concept for these tours are small groups of people( 8 tops in one group ) willing to go in more secluded and 'off the map' places and enjoying a warm fire, maybe a good laughter, and generally a good time. I would like to further mention that all the photos on this site are taken by me in the places I have discovered and come to love so much and I'll be happy to share them with you. I’m basing my review solely on the tour experience and the guide, not whether or not we saw the auroras since that can never be guaranteed. I arrived at the checkpoint a few minutes before the departure time and introduced myself to the guide. I was the last one to arrive so we immediately got into the car and started driving. After that, there was silence in the car. Some time later we made it out of the city centre and onto a long flat road. More silence. So I started making conversation with the guide, asking questions like what is your name (Tamas), what brought you to Tromsø, how long have you been guiding for, etc. to fill the void. We chatted for a few minutes until I ran out of questions. You could probably guess what happened after, complete silence for the rest of the tour. We drove for almost an hour to one spot that was not clear, so we turned around and Tamas finally said something to explain which direction we were headed to next. The thing about the northern lights is that you can never trust the forecasts, if it says it’s clear one place you could arrive there to cloudy skies. So it involves a lot of driving to find a good location that’s better and more clear where you can park and set up camp to hopefully watch a nice show in the sky! So the amount of time you’re driving with 6 other people and a guide would be the perfect opportunity to get to know each other or learn about the northern lights. I think I could have just rented a car and drove around looking for clear skies to get the same experience and for the same cost, or cheaper. For the amount that the tour cost, I expected some kind of introduction, maybe some fun facts about the northern lights, how to chase them, a little tiny bit of conversation instead of total silence in the car, anything that resembled a tour! I’m glad I brought my phone with me to read emails and catch up on messages, because I did nothing else in the car while we were driving for hours. Oh and I was in the front seat, so the other guests in the back of the van probably couldn’t even hear Tamas the few times he said anything at all. I don’t think he was unfriendly, just not a very good guide. There are over 100 tour companies in Tromsø offering similar northern lights tours, so I can not recommend this company and will suggest you try a different one that can hopefully provide you with more of a tour experience. Unfortunately it was my last night in Tromsø that I decided to go on this tour so I couldn’t go on any other tours.

This was our first tour and it was quite disappointing. We didn’t drive far, just a 50 minutes drive from the city Tromsø, we parked on a parking place with a open field and waited for the lights. They did come after a while but so did 10 big coaches!!! They parked on the parking place and people were running and throwing snowballs all over the place. We didn’t make a lot of photos because we didn’t want to ask for a few more because of the tone of the guide when he replied after asking so in the end we just didn’t dare to ask for more. The guide made us a bonfire but we didn’t enjoy that neither because all the other people around us came standing near to us to stay warm. Which didn’t make it special. The guide said that he didn’t want to drive far because it would be no use since you see the same lights as at this spot. He said that the other guides did that for the excitement and just to pass time. After a while it got crazy because the coaches kept coming so we left and parked along the road 5 minutes further. He had some knäckebröd and sausages and wraps but this was also bad preparation and a disappointment since he didn’t have enough for all the people. It was our family, 2 men and another woman. If you have a private minivan tour booked by guests, the least you do is prepare and count the food and drinks before packing so there will be enough for all guests. Anyway half of us has a sausage without the flatbread or wrap hands full of ketchup.

We only had a few days in Tromso so we had to pick our activities carefully. We took this tour with Horia as the guide and he was fantastic!!! He told us great things about the area, gave us plenty of time to take pictures, he helped get some great shots of the surrounding area and our groups. He was flexible with stops/time, etc. And fed us great lunch! We have zero complaints and would absolutely book with this company again. Great job!

My wife & i booked this tour as we were hoping to see the Northern Lights for the first time so were really looking forward to it. Unfortunately we were advised on the morning of the booking that a storm was forecast for the evening and we would not see anything so we arranged for the following evening instead. Andrei was really great & kept us up to date & informed all the time. Unfortunately the second booking also had to be cancelled due to restrictions on Corona virus that were imposed by the Norwegian government. Andrei refunded our money straight away & was very apologetic. If we go back to Norway we will definitely book with Enjoy The Arctic again due to how they dealt with the situation. Thank you!

We thoroughly enjoyed our time with guide Tamas exploring the beauty of Kvaløy island. He was accommodating, informative, and congenial. I especially appreciated the fact that the tour concentrated on the best spots for photography.
