About
We are family run business situated in Karlsoey municipality, just a short drive outside the Tromsoe. We have our own Aurora base camp on the shore of frozen lake of Skogsfjordvannet, where we take our guests for the aurora hunt! Depending on the weather, sometimes we must chase Northern Lights further in the mainland Norway or even into Finland. We try our best so you get to see the Northern Lights, which in some cases can result in a longer tour. We provide snacks or a warm meal. Our tours start by guest pick-up at the Tourist Information Office in Tromsoe at Kirkegata 2. After the tour is finished, we make sure our guests get safely back to their respectful hotels in Tromsoe (and outside the city).

We saw the aurora with Tom the tour leader. The trip is just like the company's name - amazing!

Seeing the aurora was not only dependent on luck, but also the professionalism of the tour guide. It was rainy and cloudy when we arrived in Tromso. Tom, assured us with his expertise, checking on the road with his professional tools in which directions the aurora may appear, thus adjusting routes. Tom has also a lot of connections to small local communities along Tromso to the border of Finland, so he could double-check the weather and find the best spot. It was a long drive of 3 hours but totally worth it we saw active northern lights based on Tom's navigation.

Unlike some other tour organizers I researched, Tom does not have a based camp which makes the possibility to see the aurora much more higher, because he could change routes and adjust to the visibility of the skies, making it the best to see the aurora.

Tom's driving is also safe and all well precautions are made. Hospitality is also amazing, he served delicious local cakes, hot chocolates along the way. He also served soup at dinner and you can tell him your dietary preference beforehand.

All in all, I highly recommend Amazing Aurora with Tom. In contrary to those commercial northern lights tours, Tom's tour is more personalized, and his expertise of 35 years on the road around Tromso and Finland to chase for the aurora definitely makes a difference for the tour. His passion on aurora is immense and that is what makes the tour amazing, when it was cold and quiet when we almost wanted to give up, he would keep us in the warm car, serve us warm drinks and he stayed out waiting for more activity on the sky and pulled us out of warmth when there's opportunity to see the aurora.

I could write 10 thousand more words about this amazing trip and I hope more travellers will enjoy the journey with Tom,

Tom was a great host in Tromso and on the Aurora chase. He was informative about what we were doing and wear we were going. He was thoughtful about taking care of us, stopping for a rest and providing hot drinks and snacks. Unfortunately, we did not see the aurora on the night I was out with Karlsoy Buss, but not for lack of trying!

This company is relatively new in the business of driving tourists around to make them see the Aurora which explains that there have not been any reviews until recently.
On the night we had booked with them, the sky was cloudy in Tromsø - so no chance to see the lights without a vehicle. The sky, however, was perfectly clear on the island of Ringvassøya (about an hour drive from Tromsø where they have what they call their "base camp", so we did not have to drive around "chasing" the lights. On the way there, Tom, our guide, checked constantly with his camera if there was any activity, and was in touch with his people about the weather.
Their place is special as it is situated on lake Skogsfjordvannet where the owner of the company has his house, and a fishing hut directly on the shore.
When we arrived, a good display of the Aurora had just begun to develop, and it was superb to walk out onto the frozen lake (they offered grips to those who did not have their own) - depending on the angle, the lights lit up the surrounding snowy mountains, and were reflected on the ice.
When the display faded, we all went inside the hut where a fire was lit, there was coffe and tea and delicious cinnamon pastries, and then they served an excellent salmon stew for dinner which had been prepared by the owner's wife. They also let us use the toilet in the house.
During all that time, Tom stayed outside to make sure we would not miss anything, and sure enough, the activity picked up again for a second and even more spectacular show - when this was over we waited around for some more time before getting on the bus to head back. On the way, Tom kept checking, and at some point, the bus pulled over very surprisingly just on the roadside because there was another outburst of supreme beauty in the sky. When we finally got back into town, around 02:00, they took everybody to their respective hotels, even us who had an apartment way out of the center.
To sum it up:
Strong points:
High no-nonsense professionality, no "cute" frills (on another tour, we saw a fake Sami tent being built next to a layby on the road, for next year's excursions ...)
Scenic location, cozy fireplace INSIDE (other companies light a campfire - light pollution!!)
Spikes for shoes, tripods, free foto of you in front of the Aurora, good food, toilet)
Friendly, personal treat
Week points:
None

I had no hope to see the northern lights. We only had Friday or Saturday (20/02 or 21/02) to try it and the forecast for both days were awful, showers, overcast and snow :( I had been talking to Tom over the phone one week prior to our arrival in Tromso, and he was always incredibly nice and positive. Well, we then decided to try Friday, despite the horrible weather .... Tom told us we would head to Finland as the weather there was better, and to our surprise, when we were almost in Finland, we were gifted with the most beautiful and clear sky. Tom was restless chasing the Northern Lights, and we had a show, it was amazing, the lights even danced for us. Recommend Tom to anyone, he is extremely nice and always willing to help you with a smile on his face. Thanks Tom :)

We had a great night chasing the northern lights. It was cloudy in Tromso and so we headed east in a cosy minibus. Tom is really professional and found a perfect clear spot to wait for the sky to light up. Even if we were not at the base camp, he took care that we stayed warm (hot drink and mini campfire) and informed (aurora forecast). And when aurora started, it was magnificent, dancing around in different colours, and for quite long time! Apparently one of the best in weeks! We also got the picture taken with the aurora using the pocket light trick, good to know. I highly recommend this tour.

Had a fantastic night viewing the lights with Tom. Very nice people, knowledgable and friendly. The basecamp is amazing, on a frozen lake in winter! Could not reccommend them enough!

It was suppose to arrive at 1 a.m. but we drove till 5 a.m. seeking to see auroras. They did a fish soup so delicious.
We really liked the service and the simpaty.

There were heavy snows and northern light index was only 1 out of 8, I asked Tom if the tour would be cancelled. Fortunately Tom didn't give up. He had been driving for almost 9 hours to the north of Tromso to chase for the northern lights, he stopped and got off the car for several times when he saw a clear sky, we just needed to sit in his new and comfy car and waited to be called to see northern lights. Finally, we saw northern lights in two spots, when our camera was exposing for 20 seconds, we kept running around to keep ourselves warm.

Tom is so enthusiastic and helpful, no fancy words but working with great effort, I really recommend his tour service if you wanna chase for northern lights in Tromso!

We booked last minute, having visited the Tromsø tourist office and found out that conditions were going to be good to see the lights the next day. The group size was perfect - there were around 13 of us. This was important for me since I prefer more personal tours.

From the moment Tom, our guide, met us with the minibus he was extremely friendly and we knew that we were in safe hands! Tom is extremely professional and knowledgable and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend his tour since it was fantastic!! We saw three magnificent displays of the Northern Lights at different two locations - once by the fjord at the roadside, which was a beautiful scene for photos and the other time just outside the log cabin we were taken to.

Tom provided photo guidance as well as tripods to use - a must when photographing the aurora! He also took many photos himself which he emailed to everyone on the tour afterwards.

The log cabin was a nice touch as it meant we were warm whilst waiting for any aurora activity and we also had some lovely sandwiches, biscuits (Tom even brought gluten free biscuits for myself and another person who needed them too) and hot chocolate/tea/coffee.

Take warm clothes, a camera, some snacks and some patience and with a bit of luck you'll get a display as amazing as we did!

Unforgettable experience!! Thank you :)
