About
I go further, to bring you closer! I keep it small, friendly and personal; My name is Dan, and I`m a native Norwegian, born and raised in Arctic Norway. I grew up under the Northern lights, so I know the nature up here, the folklore, the culture and the best places to find the lights. I am also a professional photographer, and if your camera is up to the challenge of taking pictures of the Aurora, I will show you how to set it up for doing just that. I will also take pictures and e-mail you after the tour, free of charge of course. My dedication creates your memories, so I will go as long as it takes and do whatever it takes to give you the best possibility to see the lights :) All the best, Dan the Aurora Man :)

Dan is super personable - a fantastic experience that my wife and 10 year-old daughter loved. The night started out with a bit of stress as we were 10 minutes late which was my error. I thought the tour left a little later in the evening. I called Dan and he managed to pick us up directly from the hotel which was fantastic.

He was very engaging with my ten year old daughter who was curious at the stars. It wasn't a night where the Aurora was showing and we left in rain and snow - it was a little disconcerting as we werent hopeful of seeing any clear skies which are required for the lights. Dan managed to find clear skies and we set up camp just on the side of the road, whilst it wasnt flat and very icy it was the best he could do in the circumstances. The lady then started to appear and whilst she wasnt bright or visible to the naked eye (only with camera) it was a nice experience. Dan can't control mother nature but he did take us to clear skies.

Dan served hot drinks, a beautiful carrot cake and delicious warm soup whilst we waited. At all times he was very attentive to any questions along with keeping an eye on this advanced weather forecast technology to ensure that it was going to be clear. He set up a fire once we knew no rain was coming.

I would recommend this experience, next time we will go with Dan although we will make it September/October when there is more of a chance of clear skies rather than the weather in Norway around Christmas/January. Dan sent the photos he took a few hours after arriving back at our hotel.

Highly recommended!

I did different tours in Tromsø chasing the northern lights. Big group tours and tours like Dan’s, so I think I can compare. All my tours in Tromsø were great but what I love about Dan is the small group which makes the quality much better. Instead of 50+ people, you’re with under 10 in a van. N lights is hit or miss — you won’t have a better chance seeing it with a different tour agency, or from a different viewpoint (i think most Tromsø guided all talk to each other and end up chasing lights around same location, but they may park at different spots). You’re at the mercy of fate if you see N Lights — your guide probably can’t control the outcome . What you probably CAN control is the kind of experience you have chasing it. I loved dan’s tour because there were so much less people. He took you to spots that were less crowded so you can enjoy the experience in peace and quiet. He had fold out chairs. He was super patient and knowledgeable and helped people set up their fancy cameras settings. He offered SO many photos (this is also a big difference from the big group tours which limits your photos) and kept offering to take more photos of me because he knew I didn’t carry a camera.

The food snack quality is amazing!!!! Actual cake, tasty soup, and really great coffee and tea. The big tour bus group’s snacks felt watered down due to the number of people.

Dan is also just such a delightful human being. Great humor, super energy, and just a positive energy about him. Really thoughtful. And he was able to turn around the photos within hours!!!

If I’d do it again and if I were to recommend to people how to do the N lights in Tromso via tours, if budget is not an issue, I’d say do at least one small group expensive one like Dan’s and then one with the big group for cheese. You probably need to do multiple tours anyway to be able to see the lights unless you’re just fabulously lucky your first try.

I was really able to relax and enjoy appreciating the N lights in the small group experience Dan provided, more so than the big group’s.

I cannot recommend this tour enough! Dan is an amazing guide, who goes out of his way to find clear sky and heighten the chance of finding the lights.

With an incoming band of rain, we went to the Norwegian / Finland boarder to find some clear sky and maximise our time before the clouds rolled in. It paid off and we managed to see the lights and even catch a glimpse of a purple hued aurora. Although they didn’t stick around for long, we got some incredible photos, and the warm fire and vegetable soup kept the cold at bay.

The tour is an incredible experience, the small number of people make it much more intimate than a coach tour.
Dan is so friendly and knowledgeable about auroras, and brilliant when helping set up camera gear.

When I return to Tromsø I will be booking again.

Thanks, Dan!

Our family booked a tour with several other tour companies so we know what we are talking about.
Where the others didnt bother driving more than a half an hour, Dan went beyond what he promises. The other companies stayed just near the City and we were just waiting utill the sky would clear up. We had more than 6 big coaches next to us so it wasnt that special. Loud people all around us and no distance between the groups at all. They kept saying it was nonsence to drive around if you could see the lights so close to town. I do not agree because we saw the difference between a very clear bright sky and a light poluted area.
Dan drove untill Finland and would have gone even further, he tries to find the best spot with no one else around. We had the clearest sky and a fantastic aurora show.
He really thought of everything. So generous with all the food he had brought and he really does everything to make you feel comfortable and make it an once in a life time experience.
Our children also enjoyed it a lot, they loved the bonfire, cookies, cake, soup etc etc. He made a lot of photos of us and didnt make us feel uncomfortable asking him. We arrived very late at the hotel but he sent us the photos before morning!
He is just really good in what he does and wants to deliver the best.
We can honestly say that he is the guy to book a northern lights tour in Tromsø.
A fantastic experience!!!! And Dan made our dream come true.

Dan found us a big clearing in the sky, while we afterwards heard that other people on chases couldn't find aurora that same night!

Our chase was very well-organized (there were even water bottles next to each seat), with a small, cozy group of 8.
We loved the authenticity and local knowledge of a Norwegian, in contrast to most other tours. (e.g. Dan took some time to search for a place that served the Norwegian dish "lutefisk", which other (foreign) guides hadn't even heard of).
Dan was also the most warm and friendly Norwegian we met during our week-long trip (the other Norwegians in the north were a bit less customer-oriented).

He made us a large fire which was actually useful for getting warmed up (the other companies make a tiny firebowl which is more ornamental than useful).

We took 3 aurora chases with different companies that week, and Dan's was by far the nicest and most comfortable experience.

We had the best golden wedding present possible on Dan’s arctic experience. Dan is an really charismatic guide and provided everything anyone could want on a long evening in the snow. His knowledge and passion about his environment and the aurora borealis is amazing and we all learned so much, as well as getting 2 spots to see the lights at their best. He provided great food and hot drinks, lit a campfire in the snow, provided tripods - vital to get the best shots of the lights on slow exposures- and had a great rapport with everyone.
Thanks, Dan the Man - the best!

What a unforgettable and amazing chasing light trip. Recommended by my friends, I am so lucky to find Dan and booked this trip as early as possible with his kind help.

Due to the weather, I am not for sure if we could see the lights. But Dan is quite professional to find the best location (which is actually far sway from Tromso) and also accurately predict the time we may see the Aurora. The night we have seen even very strong lights. All the efforts are worthy.

I want to highly recommend Dan because he is also one of the greatest person I have seen. He was talking very nicely to everyone and was always happy to share more about the lights and what we are interested in. With warm fire, delicious soup and cakes, the night was comfortable. Dan also provided triple stands to all of us to hang our phones and camera, and also instructed me on paramters I could set on my phone that I did take many nice photos. As a really good photographer, he also help took many photos and shared with us just after delivering us to the hotel when coming back in the morning at 5 o' clock.

Not enough to push everhthing I enjoyed in the review and I just want to highly recommend to chase the lights with Dan.

it was a wonderful experience thanks to Dan, who makes you live a daydream thanks to his passion for the northern lights; he manages to convey this passion to all the guests.
We saw a wonderful show, around a fire and accompanied by an excellent hot drink and a delicious cake.
It's a tour for a maximum of 8 people so it's a great experience. I really recommend him to everyone if you want to see the aurora, he is really an expert.
Wonderful everything

With great professsionalism and enthusiasm Dan managed to find clear sky for us so that we could enjoy a wonderful aurora borealis. He permanently monitored the meteorological charts to find a place without rain clouds, readily helped us setting up our cameras, and provided us with delicious soup and cakes while we were waiting for the northern lights to appear. For Dan, showing the lights to his guests is not routine but passion - Perfect!

Dan was an excellent tour provider and host. When our original tour reservation was compromised due to local weather conditions, he made his tour schedule adaptable to accommodate our last minute travel plans. Dan was very courteous, helpful and kind during our Northern Lights tour. He went over and above to make sure we had the best chances to view the Northern lights. We were able to witness a natural phenomenon that touched us personally. We strongly recommend Dan and his personal services and, will call on him again in the future when we return. Thank you Dan , for everything !
