About Soroya Havfiskecruise – Day Tours
In the winter season we stay in Tromsø from the 1th of October till the latest of March. Then Soroya Havfiskecruise offers Fishing Trips, Day/Fjord Cruises in the day time, and Northern Light trips in the evning. The colors of the landscape and the sea are especially wonderful in the wintertime. Sometimes we see small Dolphins, White Tale Eagles, and Seals on the route. You never know what turns up. From the 1th of April till the last of September we stay at Sørøya at the West Coast of Finnmark. Then we offer deep sea fishing trips, bird wathcing and other wild life experiences. Sørøya is Norways 4th biggest Island and is also called "the land of the big fish". Wonderful wild nature both on land and sea. We offer accomodation in a house and on our catamaran MB Havcruise.

The boat, a large catamaran, leaves the pier behind the Scandic Ishavshotel (opposite Radisson Blu). We arrived at 8.15pm as the rest of the group (four other couples) were boarding. Inside was warm and cosy. Temperatures had not risen above minus 11 all that day and we were very well wrapped up. The trip is run by Gulli and her husband Cato who apparently live on this boat. After a brief explanation of safety, lifejackets etc we were free to go out on deck for 15 mins until the food was ready and we were called in. A traditional Norwegian meal, basic but very filling meal of cod (no bones at all) caught earlier in the day with potatoes and carrots and a bacon and onion combination was brought to us along with a glass of wine. There was certainly no shortage of food as more and more appeared. I love cod but couldn’t fit in any more! There was tea and coffee available to help ourselves to through out the evening, in flasks, and later, cake too. Back out on the deck, which could be quite slippery in places, ready for the Lights which started to appear slowly, actually looking more like a bit of cloud to begin with. Interestingly, more colour could be seen through the camera than with the naked eye. Over the next two hours we’d pop back inside to warm up and check photos then back out again. I think due to the wind that evening we didn’t go as far out as normal but it was still really good. The boat stops and Cato turns it so as to see the best views of the Aurora. It’s a very smooth ride, not at all rough On the return journey Gulli filled us in with some interesting facts about the Aurora before dropping us off around 11.30pm. I used an iphone 13, hand held and the photos came out remarkably well. The atmosphere on board was welcoming, friendly and relaxed. We thoroughly enjoyed this trip and would highly recommend it.

My boyfriend booked us on the Northern Lights Dinner Cruise for my birthday in October. We were super lucky to be the only ones on the boat that night and enjoyed our time with Gulli and Cato from the moment we met on the docks! The boat (aka their home) was warm and homely. Gulli prepared a traditional Norwegian homecooked meal of cod (which they caught themselves!), carrots, potatoes, and an AMAZING side dish of onions and bacon (seriously — it was so good I asked her for the secret to her recipe)! Our meal also came with delicious red wine, and we had the option of tea, coffee, and hot chocolate. As we were stuffing our faces, Gulli was braving the cold outside looking out for Northern Lights and coming back in to inform us of activity. The sea was strangely choppy that evening but Cato expertly navigated the waters that we didnt feel sick at all — and we actually saw a beautiful display of lights! We saw northern lights in our time in Tromso, but it's a whole other experience seeing it from the sea. I would definitely recommend this to anyone. When the aurora activity died down, we went back into the boat. My boyfriend had arranged for a surprise cake and bubbly — I was incredibly touched that Gulli baked my birthday cake herself! It was delicious (and gigantic) and really topped our night off. We were truly taken care of the whole night and I would highly recommend anyone to join this cruise! To Gulli & Cato: Thank you for opening your home to us and for making my 30th such a special treat. It was lovely meeting you both and we hope to be back in Norway soon for some deep sea fishing!

When planning our trip to Tromso, my husband and I really wanted to take a Fjord Cruise. We ended up booking one with the MS Senjafjell because it also included a fishing trip - which seemed like an added bonus. Well, a few weeks before we were due to arrive in Tromso, we received an email from Visit Tromso telling us that the MS Senjafjell tour had been cancelled and that we were now booked on the MB Havcruise. I noticed that the length of the tour on the MB Havruise was much shorter. While our original tour was half a day, this tour was only 3 hours long. I now know why. It turns out the trip aboard the MB Havruise was just a fishing trip and did not include a tour of the fjords. To be honest, I was a bit disappointed, as I had really wanted to tour the fjords. But, not wanting it to get me down too much, I decided to just embrace the trip for what it was: a fishing experience. I had never been fishing before, so it was quite amazing to be able to fish in such scenic surroundings. I ended up catching three! After fishing, the captain boiled the fish and served them to us for lunch, along with boiled potatoes. He told us that this is a popular Norwegian dish and that it is the earliest thing he could remember eating. I'd never eaten such fresh fish before. I remember it was quite salty. So yeah, it wasn't a fjord cruise, but if you're looking to fish I think you'll really enjoy the experience.

Many thanks for your good feedback on fishing with us. I am really sorry that you did not get the cruise you had booked. I do agree that 3 hours is not the same as orderd if the other trip was ment to be for 5 hours. we have told everyone that is making a change on their bookings over to us, that they must tell about the difference.Senjafjell is one of the other companies that we have cooperated a lot with. A very good cooperation so far. The reason why we have chosen to do 3 only three hours trips in the winter time is because of a marketing research we did some years ago. It said that 3 hours was enough at sea in the winter time. Sometimes we go into the fjords, sometimes not. That depend on the weather conditions, and where it will be most comfortable for our guests to fish. The fjords close to Tromsø are not that spectaculare as tourists excpect it to be. This landscape is more flat compared to what you see on TV from for excample Geirangerfjorden and Trollfjorden that you find more south in Norwaty. In the north of Norway we are surrounding by beuatiful wild nature everywhere, even just outside Tromsø Island. Almost the same as going into the fjords, mountains dressed in wonderful bright wintercolors and wildlife all over:-) And off course our catamaran MB Havcruise is especially built for deep sea fishing tourism, but also suitable for every kind of tours in the arctic.

My boyfriend, best friend and I all went on the Northern Lights and dinner cruise with Soroya Havfiskecruise, and out of a week of amazing adventures in Tromso, this was the highlight. The couple who owns the boat actually live on it and are inviting guests into their home for a delicious, home-cooked (and home-caught) meal and ride through the fjords. My boyfriend has celiac (gluten-free) and could eat the whole dinner made from only fresh ingredients. Before the meal was even part-way through, the skipper came down and told us the lights were out and shining, which made everyone get up and go outside. As they shined for the next hour, our host tried to keep everything that wasn't on plates warm while people came and went, eating and seeing the amazing show of lights that put on a display. When my boyfriend came in a couple hours later, our host basically reheated an entire meal for him. Out of all of the tourist excursions we went on, our hosts here were the most friendly, the most accommodating, and the ones who still seemed completely enamoured with the Northern lights - they were out on the deck with us, watching the show. If you're trying to figure out how to see the Northern Lights, I highly recommend this boat. You have the warmth of inside, a small group (about 12 people or less), excited hosts, and best of all, an amazing view. I asked another tour guide the next day what they had seen when we were on the boat, and they had barely seen any of what we had seen on the water. We also went out on non-boat excursions 2 other times on perfect conditions nights and saw very little. I'm sure some of it was luck, but a lot of it was this boat.

Many thanks for the good feedback. Really appreciated in the end of a busy winter season:-) ! I remember this night. Very nice guests to have on board. A wonderful experience for us too. We never get tired of seeing the lights ourselves, and the best of all is to be able to show it to our guests and watch their happy faces:-) Wish you both the best! best regards, Gulli
