About
Temporary exhibitions about contemporary life and society. Situated in the centre of Tromsø in a magnificent 1838 villa, we often show documentary photography and we have a changing events programme. We also operate the Folkeparken open air museum south on the island (buildings open in summer).

Free entrance to this fascinating exhibition. Lower floors held a religious theme, but upstairs a photographic exhibition of photos taken on the street during the 1950/60's, showing life here as it then was. excellent.

Well worth a couple of hours. The lower two floors are superbly displayed exhibitions on the theme of religion in Tromso, which I found interesting, despite my being a militant Athiest.
The highlight, however, is the top floor, a terrific exhibition of photos of Tromso in the 1960s. It's full of surpris es.
A lovely building and very helpful staff too.

We visited Perspektivet yesterday and found much to enjoy. I loved the vintage 1960s pics of Tromso, including the construction of the cable car and the bridge. My husband liked the religion exhibit. I wasn’t as interested in the Communism portion, but like all museums, not every exhibit will interest every visitor and that’s okay. Great local stop! There were many written explanations in English.

Neat little museum to spend an hour or two in. The first floor changes exhibits regularly, we saw a photo exhibit on women in Afghanistan - certainly very interesting. There were 2 more floors focused on some of Tromso's history. I recommend going.
There's a little cafe inside if you want to purchase snacks/coffee.

This was a very interesting museum in Tromso. The good news is that there is no entry fee and you are free to wander through the museum for as long as you like. Of course, whether you like it or not has a lot to do with what is on exhibit. We were fortunate in that the main exhibit when we were there was a collection of photos of communist party meetings held in unusual places in the world. They were really well done. I would recommend you at least stop by here and check out what they have on exhibit.

Went here in order to kill some time when it was snowing hard outside. Enjoyed the postcards of the Sami people but hated the religious exhibits. Okay because it's free but wouldn't want to go again.

A must see if you are interested in local history or photography. The museum is divided in to three parts, indigenous history, religion and photos of the town. It's a great place to get warm in the winter and you can get a warm beverage.

I live in Tromsø, but have not visited Perspektivet before. But one sunday I hade a few hours in the city center and decided to take a look. As a student the free admission was great. The museum had a photo exhibit called uprooted. This showed pictures of people that through war had to flee - refugees and displaced persons. The photos were mounted on wooden blocks and you could pick them up and hold them. This made the artwork more hands on, and on the back you could read the stories. It was a powerful effect walking amongst this pictures.
In the second floor they had an exhibit called Homo Religious. There were pictures and "special effects" that made it a great experience and got us wondering about the meaning behind it all.
Third floor had photos of Tromsø and it´s people through the years.
Really liked the museum and recommend it highly :) As far I could see only the first floor is accessible for wheelchair users. It´s an old building that uses to belong to Cora Sandel the author.

As the previous reviewer said this is a terrific little museum. The exhibitions were very interesting, particularly those which dealt with the history of the Russian fishing fleet's interaction with Tromso and the fishers there.
There were other exhibits they seem to change out and these too were terrific.
