- Nick14541133 contributionsVery good sea life centrePolaria is fairly small but an enjoyable visit. We started in the panoramic cinema with a short film about the northern lights before progressing to the various fish tanks and best of all the seals. They were most entertaining as they were fed and cavorted in the water, playing games etc. Worth coming to see it all.Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 8, 2023
- Christin CAtlanta, Georgia534 contributionsSEALSSmall aquarium with seals. These are the main attraction and worth every penny. There are some other interesting fish - wolffish, a halibut and an arctic angler. Three short videos that are worth watching and many displays on arctic life. Two hours would be a long time for adults here. The gift shop is also very cute.Visited December 2023Traveled soloWritten December 17, 2023
- PWStaffordshireStaffordshire, United Kingdom109 contributionsLovely polar aquariumPolaria is fairly small but makes for an enjoyable visit. Cost 220 NOK pp You can start the experience with an optional short film about the northern lights & local wildlife. Then you can wander round viewing the various fish tanks, and watch the seals playing and being fed. It was nice to hear that a larger pool is being built as I was worried that this one does appear a little small the group. The keepers do stress how much they do to keep the seals mentally stimulated. The gift shop is good, and sells a wide variety of items from jumpers, coats, socks, & toys.Visited December 2023Traveled with friendsWritten December 21, 2023
- paulCambridgeshire, United Kingdom47 contributionsA place to smile on a cold, snowy dayIt was a cold, windy and snowy January day and Polaria is just a 5 minute walk from the main Tromso hotels. It was well worth taking a look: well-run and friendly with a good mix of aquatic life, educational information and audio-visual presentations. A highlight was the massive, high resolution audiovisual theatre, running a range of nature titles through the day - worth the entrance fee alone. The aquariums were diverse and captivating. The resident seals seemed healthy and happy and are to benefit from a much enlarged enclosure in the next 2 years. We will return in the future, when a 5 star review will be very likely.Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 4, 2024
- danielle gPenfield, New York19 contributionsThe seals! The seals were amazing to watch. We stayed for two feeding/training exercises and talked to the trainers and this was a real highlight of our more affordable daytime experiences in Trømso. In 2025 when they expand I’m sure it will be even cooler as they say the current seal room will become a giant fish aquarium and the seals will get a larger pool that includes outdoor space.Visited February 2024Traveled with friendsWritten February 26, 2024
- Tony and Joy WBridgwater, United Kingdom1,176 contributionsAquarium with a Great Seal ShowWe visited the Aquarium as part of a tour from the cruise ship so not sure how expensive it was to get in. Firstly we saw a panoramic film show from the eyes of a bird but the Seals are the star of the Aquarium and they fed them while we were there, which was good to watch. The Aquarium also has lots of other fish tanks with various displays of marine life in the Arctic including an overhead walkway where you an continue to watch the Seals swim! There is a nice gift shop with plenty of things to purchase. If you like Seals this is a must to visit!Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 13, 2024
- JnRDeming, New Mexico328 contributionsExpensive. Kids may enjoy the seals.Perhaps the high price is to help finance the expansion. Seal shows may be good for kids. Glass tunnel under the seal tank. We liked the pond with a variety of fish, and the interactive display with details about each fish. Also enjoyed two movies on the panoramic screen: Aurora and Svalbard. Wish the movies were longer. Hope they add more movies about the Arctic in the future.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 20, 2024
- Wendy HWokingham, United Kingdom1,737 contributionsFun visitWorth a visit We thoroughly enjoyed our visit here and stayed about 2.5 hrs. There is a lot of information available and the three films are worth watching, especially the Svalbard one ( where we were travelling on to). The facts presented on global warming do make sobering reading. We attended the seal feeding session which was lovely to watch. There seems a good rapport between the trainers and the seals. I'm not a fan of any animal in (unnecessary) captivity but the seals here are well looked after and seem very content. One of the trainers/researcher was very happy to answer questions at length and was knowledgeable. I hope the French seal visitor settles in well when he arrives!! Currently there is building happening to extend the museum which will include a new outdoor pool for the seals. Thus there is some noise.Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 20, 2024

Really regret going here - the films weren't that great and some tanks were still being built. The gift shop is soooo funny - £65 for a wooden mug! Entry is hugely overpriced and we didn't stay to see the seals being fed as there wasn't enough to keep us interested for more than 30 minutes. Save your money and go to The Polar Museum instead, which is fascinating. This is like the kind of aquarium you'd expect to find on the end of a pier - tiny and a bit tatty.

Very nice museum. They show a film explaining the origin of the northern lights. If you're there at 12.30 pm, you watch the feeding of the seals with a little show.
The gift shop is very good too.

Ignore all the negative reviews and come visit the northern most aquarium in the world. At less then $20 USD it’s cheaper then most aquariums I’ve visited.
Yes it is a little small but there is plenty to look at. We liked the the aquariums showing different fish and corals that inhabit the arctic waters. There is a small plexiglass tunnel where you can see the seals swimming above you. The highlight of course was the four seals and the seal training/feeding.
Polaria also has a really nice cafe with coffee, a bakery and sandwiches. Come check it; Polaria does not disappoint!

My husband and I recently visited Polaria and had an amazing time! As our trip to Norway was partly to celebrate our wedding anniversary, we wanted a few extra special experiences and so we paid for the 'Ice to meet you' package. Having had the experience, I can say I would highly recommend it to those who love seals or wildlife in general.
Firstly the Arctic Experience Centre itself - What we both loved is that this isn't just an aquarium, and the 'aquarium part' isn't like other aquariums. Polaria focuses on fish, marine mammals and other sea creatures which live in the Arctic. So you won't find tropical fish here! But they still have a lovely collection of animals to watch, all clearly very well looked after and loved. There's lots of interactive displays near the entrance to the museum and you could easily spend an hour here alone reading everything, listening to the sounds different fish and marine mammals make, as well as learning about land dwelling mammals of the arctic, and birds too.
They also have a panoramic cinema with three films, one of which is a behind the scenes of the aquarium. This was highly informative and explained Polaria's mission and that it is also a centre for research, learning and educating the public on all matters environment and the future of our world.
The seal feeding was wonderful (see more below), sadly it was just the 3 bearded seals as the harbour seals were in an alternative pool for now due to the refurbishment works and the arrival of the 3rd Bearded seal. But we completely understood this was for the seals happiness, and to help the new bearded seal settled in, so not a problem at all.
Secondly, a review of Ice to Meet you - Ahead of the feeding we met with one of the Bearded seal's trainers who provided lots of information, we were then given the best spot in the house to watch the feeding and the seals display their 'behaviours' which was a lot of fun, especially watching them on their backs and doing sit ups.
Afterwards, we had protective shoe covers and gloves to wear and then we were into the enclosure to get close up to Bella and Mai Sun. I was expecting maybe 5 minutes with the seals, but we actually had about 25 minutes in the enclosure. Their trainer provided lots more info, as well as taking lots of videos and photos of us feeding the seals ice. Mai Sun came up right next to us, whereas Bella preferred to stay in the water. It was wonderful to see them up so close and have this magical experience.
In total including browsing the gift shop, we spent about 2.75-3 hours here.
TLDR - Fantastic Arctic Experience Centre and Aquarium specialising in species unique to the Arctic. Viewing of seal feeding worth the entry price alone. Ice to meet you experience with bearded seals comes highly recommended 5/5 stars. A beautiful centre with staff who clearly care about Polaria's mission and the animals they look after.

A good place to spend a couple of hours when you arrive in Tromso. It’s not cheap to get in, but then nothing in Tromso is exactly cheap....There are some interesting exhibits about the area, plus an aquarium with walk-through tunnel, a panoramic cinema with 15 min films about arctic wildlife etc. The highlight for us was the seal feeding where the keepers also get them to do lots of activities (jumping out of water, fetching balls etc) which stimulate their playful nature and are fun to watch. Tip: get to the seal feeding about 10 mins early to get a good viewing spot.

A nice place to visit during the holidays. Very cool route through the building, you can walk underneath the seals and there are a lot of other aquariums that are very nice to see. Also there is a lot of interesting information about the north pole and sustainability. And a very nice cafe

I was lucky to visit the place in time to see the feeding of the seals. What a show!
Other exhibits also caught my attention...not to mention the eye-catching architecture of the building. he museum has a proper gift shop and a cafe as well.

We went in at around 14:30, went around the quite small exhibitions and then was the time for seal feeding & training. They have this seal session 3 times a day and you should definitely only go during these times. The seals are a great experience for people of all ages! I got in as a student for 90 NOK, whilst my partner and mom had to pay the 175 NOK entry. Definitely use your student benefits if you can, half the price! No need for snacks here, as the whole experience is about 1-2 hours only and you're close to the city center anyway. Solid experience, come here if you got spare hours!

We were expecting a much bigger exhibition so were a bit disappointed. The highlight of the place is four seals in a relatively small pool. We were lucky enough to arrive at feeding time so the staff gave some information about the animals and were happy to answer questions. There are fish on display in various tanks and some information about renewable energies. There is a café on the premises but it closes early so we couldn't have a drink even though it was only 4 pm.

This was a wonderful place to take my kids. We had gotten back to the hotel from an morning excursion and they were feeling a little restless in the afternoon. It was a short walk from our hotel and I’m glad we went. We all enjoyed walking through the museum and then watching the seal show. The kids then spent some time running off energy in the play area.

Ciao.
