About Tromso Friluftsenter
North on the whale island 40 minutes drive threw amazing coastal scenery you will find the most charming place called Risvika. This is our homeplace, and for generations my family have lived by farming and fishing here on the coast. Threw times things have changed, and now the farm has no animals any more. One day my father sat under the magic of the the northern lights when he descided to share with people the amazing gift of nature.. Since 2004 we have had the pleasure to welcome guests from around the world into our hearts and home. Our speciality is the Small groups, the local guides from our area, and the family that gives the real authentic north Norwegian charm that makes our guests come back. Join us when we go chasing the northern lights, or go on the amazing whale safari. Let yourself be taken away with the fun stories, the wormth from the bonfire, the elements of nature and the memory that last for a lifetime.. Hope to be there and share the gift of natur with you!

The forecast was clear and dry so ideal weather for seeing the Northern Lights. Unfortunately the forecast was wrong but it was still an interesting and entertaining evening. Knut collected us on time and we were driven about 40 minutes to a Sami hut on an island outside Tromso. We had hot drinks, cakes and toasted marshmallows while Knut told us about local life. He was liaising with some other guides and when it became clear that the clouds were not going to clear as forecast, we drove to the other side of the island as the others suggested there was more chance of seeing them from there. The bus was warm and comfortable. Knut had a special camera and it was obvious from this that there were northern lights but these were obscured by cloud. He persisted in looking, eventually driving us up the side of a snow covered mountain but no luck. We finally drove back close to where we had started and there was some activity but it was hard to see. However Knut was able to photograph people against a backdrop of the northern lights. He was very persistent which is a good thing as we finally got results, and it was just after 2 a.m. when we arrived back at the hotel

A great experience with Tromsø Friluftsenter! Very friendly guide with a lot of knowledge. We learned about the Northern lights, but also about the culture and history of Tromsø and the Northern part of our country. We were able to spot the Northern lights, and the guide went beyond expectation to find a great spot for images. I would highly recommend this activity pdf you visit Tromsø.
