Small-Group Aurora Hunt Northern Lights Tour from Tromso

631 reviews
The Northern Lights are notoriously hard to predict, even in Tromso. So it makes sense to increase your chances of a sighting by joining a guided excursion, especially if you’re only in Tromso briefly. This tour delivers—a guide chooses a prime viewpoint according to the day’s weather and you'll enjoy soup beside a firelit camp as you watch. A drop-off back at your hotel afterward is included.

Skål! -5c in this ice bar. Cool experience with my Mom (literally)! One and only time I would go to an Ice Bar and Tromso seemed like the perfect place to go to one.

A fun thing to do whilst visiting the arctic circle, but do bear in mind that it has a metal floor and does feel quite touristy, in comparison to the genuine outdoor versions that exist in that region. There are different entry fee options, we chose the one with a free cocktail, which is overpriced but we accepted that we'd pay a premium for the novelty factor. We were the only ones in the bar most of the time, which meant we had to wait a bit to get served as there were no staff around. What ruined it slightly was that the staff whisked away our glasses as soon as we'd taken the last sip, turned the music off and the lights up over half an hour before they were due to close. We had wanted to stay longer but felt forced out, which slightly tarnished the experience. Booking is not necessary but you do get a discount if you book online or at the ticket office in advance of going in.

The staff is super friendly. They even knew Italian! Expect your feet to be a little cold, after a while. There is an entrance fee: me and my wife paid 280 NOK each. For that price you get a warm cape to put over your coat, gloves, a welcome drink and a second cocktail of your choice. Of course some could say it’s a bit of a touristy trap, but we had a good time.
