A bleak but in our case friendly station
We arrived at the station after a very long journey from Stockholm, delayed by an hour which we were told never happens. Clearly it has - something to do with Norwegian electrical powerlines. We asked a friendly person where the bus to Tromso departed. He said just up the road, but the bus station was a better place to wait. So he drove us there! What a kind man. Packed our suitcases in his car. Sped passed the busstop (about 5 mins max by foot) amd into town to the bus station (estimated 15 - 20 mins on foot, but too far if you had really heavy cases). The bus station is sheltered with a number of shops etc. Much better because you can see the bus waiting to set off. Once on the bus we were off. 3 or 4 minutes and we were back at the bus stop near the train station, picked up a passenger or two and we were off to Tromso.

Practical advice about the train station
Everyone is talking about their experience on the train; I’d like to provide some practical advice on that station. The temperature is comfortable and it’s clean; however there isn’t anything here if you have a long wait. There’s a vending machine, but it’s empty and there’s lockers, but half of them don’t work. If you want to try your luck with the lockers, you’ll need change and there’s no where to get that here. Additionally, there is a bathroom and an ATM.

    Average station
We used the station to board a train to Kiruna. The station was small with a small waiting area (which was nice and warm), there were toilets but they charge over £1 to use them! There was a cafe, but it was shut when we were there. Along the platform is an old steam train on show. The train to Kiruna was okay, but it was delayed for 4 hours, in the middle of nowhere, because the train in front broke down.

We rode the Riksgransen-Narvik train on February 9 2020 and the view is wonderfully scenic in winter. A few passengers onboard remarked that views are like a Chinese black and white painting. This Arctic train ride slows down at certain points to allow passengers to take great photos. Its normal speed is also allows for good pictures. The train interior is clean, the seats comfortable - a fantastic trip.

The highest railway in Europe, the Arctic circle train, connecting Kiruna, Sweden to Narvik, Norway ends here. The train line was initially opened to carry iron ore from Kiruna to Narvik. A very picturesque route that passes through Abisko National Park and the Bjorkliden Ski resort, and is perhaps the most scenic train journeys of the world. There are currently 4 passenger traind per day on this route. The Narvik station is located in very beautiful surroundings overlooking Ofotfjord. The sation offers storage lockers also. We travelled from Kiruna to Narvik, and explored the Narvik region before boarding our flight to Bodo, Norway from the small airport in Narvik. Many good restaurants are located close to the train station

No personnel at the train station. We had our tickets pre-printed from home, to show to the train conductor. We noticed that the ticket kiosk in the train station was out of order.

After our 17 hour train trip, which ended in a four hour coach trip due to train problems, we were met by no train station staff, taxis that were hired but never arrived, and a few locals who fell over in laughter when we asked for an uber option.

The station makes you feel like an inconvenience, not a wallet full of money wanting to be spent.

We wound up walking to the hotel. The entire area is NOT interested in welcoming the tourist dollar, imo.

Excellent small train station with a quaint little cafe. Easy to walking distance in the center of Narvik. Has an automated train ticket kiosk that is easy to use.

If you take the train sit on the right side in the carriage as the best view will be this side. However, once in Narvik there is very little do do and see. The town is very quiet, not at all picturesque and has a feel of a town stuck in another time. Reminded me of Poland after the war. Save your money and go for a hike in the park.

We visited Narvik by train from Kiruna and the views from the train are fantastic on a February day or any time of year I imagine.
You cannot but marvel at how the railway was cut through the wilderness to Narvik using 19th century technology and the station is clean, quaint and picturesque with the mountains around it.
The staff are helpful if you are getting your arrival times confused with your departures, it's a lovely place all round.

We had a trip booked on the railway as part of a trip to the Northern lights which we had pre paid , but when checking on line noticed that the trains had all been cancelled due to the coronvirus outbreak. I asked for a refund but was told I could only rebook in the next 6 months which is of course no use to me whatever as I wont be in Norway

We had numerous trips and travel booked as part of our holiday which were cancelled due to the coronvirus outbreak in line with goverment instructions and these are the only company adopting this stance and not providing a refund

The train ride to Narvik Station from Kiruna is beautiful. The station is pretty amazing too. If a train isn't sitting on the tracks, the view across the tracks is amazing. It has an automated ticket machine and a little cafe that you can spend time relaxing in whether you're waiting for a train or waiting for your party to return from their adventure in the town.
