About
With the very edge of the mountains as starting point, visitors have every opportunity to experience cross-country skiing at its best. The network of trails connects to the Lillehammer, Hafjell and Sjusjoen networks, and over 2,500 km of trails are available in total. The mountain plateaus, offering cross-country ski trails through open and gentle terrain, are within easy reach. If the weather turns bad, the forests close by provide excellent shelter from the wind. Nordseter offers excellent ski and equipment hire facilities.

While visiting Lillehammer, my husband and I really wanted to try some winter sports. As we don't know how to ski, we thought we might give snow shoe hiking a try. Lots of places around Lillehammer advertise that you can go skiing there, but Nordseter was the only one I found that actually mentioned they had snow shoes for hire.

The trip up to Nordseter was really easy: during the winter months there is a ski bus that will take you there from Lillehammer station. Once there, you'll find a service center where you can rent skis or snow shoes and a café. We found the snow shoes to be a blast. We visited in February and the snow was quite deep. Without the snow shoes you'd sink in up to your waist, but with the snow shoes we were able to hike off the main path. Nordseter is very popular with skiers - so that's one thing you have to look out for when you're on a hike - so you don't get hit!

Nordseter itself is very beautiful. It was really great to be up in the mountains, surrounded by trees, on a lovely sunny winter's day.

Just 14 kilometers and 20 minutts drive by bus from Lillehammer. A nice and open area in the mountains. Very popular among the Danish and British people. Arriving at Nordseter you can either stay at one of the hotels or bungalows, or you can go crosscountry skiing down again. As I live in Lillehammer, I prefer go skiing. Some parts of the track are flat, some parts are steeper. It takes appr.one hour or less if you are a good skier. But time does not matter here, as you are out in fresh air and want to relax in beautiful surroundings. You can take with you food and tea and light a fire in the wood. A very good attraction for children!

We drove up to Nordseter and parked at the end of the road. For hiking we were at first dismayed to find that the trails seemed to be on roads or across the flat treeless valley. We did more research and found a trail that soon veered off the road and headed up a moderate slope towards the top of a hill. We were in the small trees the whole way and hiked for over an hour before pausing for lunch at a saddle that afforded an excellent view of the countryside. We didn't make it to the top but were still pleased with the experience of this area.

I came here with my husband and learnt how to ski X Country, it's good for beginners like me as there is plenty of flat and up and downhill... depending on how brave you are and if you can master the snow plough on such narrow ski's!
If you don't want to ski you can walk the entire route, various to pick from, we did a 2-3 hour course around the lake it was beautiful and as we are in winter, all frozen over and full of snow! Amazing sites!
We rented all our gear for less than £100 fir two of us which is excellent compared to Oslo prices!!
Will definitely come here again and stay for
Longer.
Excellent for kids too, of any age x

The skiing here was a wonderful experience. We skied up to Pellastova and had a small lunch as the prices very very expensive. A bowl of soup was 125NK or $20CDN, but very tasty. All the trails were in excellent shape.

We have been here before, 4 years ago, and it was one of the places the kids really wanted to return to.

Great friendly people and excellent routes around the local hills and woods. We did some geocaching while we were here.

Get out and get some fresh air! :)

well groomed tracks, easy terrain and beautiful nature. the tracks were groomed both for classic and skating, and if you are lucky (we were) you can meet some of the famous skiers in training camps.
