A nice museum, not hugely busy, thoughtfully curated. Mostly Norwegian art; was expecting something a little more global!

Thank you for your kind review! Our art collection consists mainly of Norwegian art, but the temporary exhibitions can often include international artists. Kind regards,

Beautiful building and a nice collection of Norwegian artists. I was particularly impressed with their handling of Frits Thaulow. After prior disappointment at other museums (National Gallery in Oslo closed; only 4 of his minor works on display in Bergen; his only 2 paintings removed in Trondheim) I preemptively inquired if they had his works on view at the information desk and received an affirmative answer. When I said that strangely they don't regard Thaulow as an important painter the answer to that was, "we do." And they do indeed! The entire wall of 10 paintings dedicated to FT! Having seen some reproductions on their site I knew they had a formidable collection of Frits Thaulow work but I did not expect to see 10, some of them major canvases, Carting Ice in the Winter, The Old Factory, and a version of The Watermill to name a few. Bravo Lillehammer Kunstmuseum!…

As a regional art gallery it was an enjoyable experience with a good display dedicated to Lillehammer artists. The temporary exhibition space provided a great opportunity for up and coming artists. And, the coffee shop was fantastic!

It had a nice coffee area, and the building itself was spectacular. The art was laid out nicely, and they had a good and deep group of paintings

We took thr train to Lillehammer to see the exhibition of Norwegian artists who had studied in Paris. Really interesting exhibition made all the more so with a terrific guided tour (every day at 14.00 hrs in Norwegian). The permanent exhibition is also worth a visit with great examples of Norwegian art hung chronologically in periods. The museum also has a really nice cafe with homemade cakes and delicious salads and sandwiches made to order. A guided tour using an iPad (free use) is also available for both the special exhibition and the permanent exhibition…
