The museum is one of the nation's leading art museums, and houses a collection consisting of approx. 1400 works by Norwegian artists dating from the 1800s and until today. The art collection, which represents a consistently high quality of artworks, has been thoroughly restored. The museum also organises five separate exhibitions a year, featuring both historical art and modern art. A dedicated publication is issued in connection with each exhibition. The museum offers a wide-ranging educational programme including guided tours, lectures and other art events.

When we visited, there was a very interesting exhibition about the connection Warhol/Munch and we thoroughly enjoyed that, on top of the "standard" exhibition. The premises themselves are well lighted, the exhibition rooms large enough to allow for good effect of the exhibits but not so large as to make them loud. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable -... More

Great quality exhibitions, wonderful collection, the stone garden is amazing I was so annoyed it was raining and I couldn't fully appreciate it. There is a great gallery of paintings from de 1800 to de 1900 (give or take) from some of the greats of that time like Edvard Munch, Johan Christian Dahl or Harriet Backer along with many others.... The museum is a real treat! Lots of interesting works of art to be seen! I have been in and out of the museum since childhood, but there is always something study more carefully. I like varied permanent exhibition very much.

The building has a very uniqe stone garden with waterfall. Many collections at separate halls, are naive, peacfully and colorfull, which we found very attractive.

I went to the Lillehammer art museum expecting a local art museum but was very pleasantly surprised at their ambitions and how successful they have been. The building is gorgeous modern, welcoming and open, excellent for its purpose. In a regional museum you expect the landscapes and the depressing old portraits. Yes, they had some of those too. They had... More

The Lillehammer Art Museum is well worth a visit. They have a splendid permanent collection from the Golden Age of Norwegian painting 1830-1930. One can easily imagine how painters from a land of white and blue and grey require an infusion of color in their paintings of landscape, genre and forays to Paris and southern Europe. When I visited there... More

Unfortunately, our visit to Lillehammer on 3rd July 2008 was brief but we were delighted to find your museum and the Edvard Munch Exhibition. Your staff were most welcoming and we thought the exhibits and paintings were displayed in a most attractive way.
