In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the center. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.

Located just off Freyung is Freyung Passage ,it's part of the stunning Palais Ferstel.
This stunning glass covered arcade was named after the architect that designed the arcade namely Heinrich Von Ferstel in 1810.
The shopping outlets in this arcade are amongst some of the most chic and exclusive in the city ,even if you don't shop in here it's most definitely well worth checking out if you're near Freyung.

We stumbled about this passage when exploring Vienna and were pleansantly surprised by its gradneur and beauty. Worth a stroll!

The Freyung Passage, sometimes referred to as the Ferstel Passage, is an upscale arcade built by the Austrian architect Heinrich von Ferstel in 1860. At the end of the 1970s, the arcade was thoroughly renovated and over the following decade it came back to life as beautiful as ever.
There are luxury stores lining this gorgeous marble-clad passage with magnificent vaulted ceilings. In the center of the courtyard is a stunning six-meter high fountain. At the top of the fountain is a statue of the Donaunixen (Danube waternymph), with a fish in her hand.

What can I say ... Vienna is one of those places where you can't take a few steps without stepping into/upon something interesting. The "Ferstel" (Freyung) passage is one of those ... So here it is:
- location - situated in the Ferstel Palace - that says something already about the place - one end in the direction of the Hof (close to Cafe Central - one of the most famous coffee shops in Vienna - and in the world I would say) and the other one in the Freyung - a triangular square with plenty of things to be seen.
- what you can find here - shops - high end shops , so visiting and walking around is free but if you are into shopping it can turn in a few minutes in a very expensive visit... just saying.
- cafe's and small restaurants are also to be found here.
- the "Danube fountain"
Plus for those of you into architecture , for sure you will appreciate the building itself and the decoration - it is such a great place.

Freyung Passage, part of the Palais Ferstel in Vienna, is the creation of architect Heinrich von Ferstel (1860). Nowadays, a shopping arcade, it enchants the eye with its exquisite architecture, inner fountain and elaborate lighting.

Located in the stunning Freyung Square is Freyung Passage ,part of the beautiful Palais Ferstel in the Herregasse neighbourhood, the arcade with its beautiful glass covered roof and named after the architect who designed the arcade namely Heinrich Von Ferstel in 1810 ,some of shopping outlets here are the most expensive in Vienna but I suppose such an exclusively location ensures prohibitive prices for your average shopper but theres a nice cafe in the arcade to enjoy a coffee and chill out,its a lovely little diversion from the busy and popular square and is most definitely well worth checking out if your in Freyung Square.

Lovely passageway, housing the most amazing chocolate shop!
An architectural jewel in the middle of Vienna in a smaller version of the Parisienne or London passages.
Well worth a visit!

A luxury mall that situated within Palais Ferstel. The passage links the pathway between Central Cafe on one side, and the Freyung Square on the other side. The entire building used to be headquarters of a bank and the Austrian Stock Exchange but was recently refurbished to become a shopping arcade. Upstairs in the staterooms, the rooms can be rented for grand functions.
The grand Venetian style architecture reminds me of arcades in Italy.

You may pass by and miss him even if you are walking right in front of him, but if you do not, you will be fascinated.
There are shops inside. There is a fountain in the center of the passage. You can also climb up the stairs.

Named after the architect (an unusual move in construction of buildings!) the beauty and serene opulence of this space needs to be seen and experienced. If you can, try to get in to the main parts of the building upstairs also
