After having visited Vienna for over 34 years, I am very familiar with the various types of city tours that are available, from guided walks to hop-on, hop-off bus tours. By far and away, Hot Rod City Tours is the most fun and original way to see Vienna. There is no better tour allowing you to see the Inner City except by zooming around the back streets and passing all the main tourist attractions. The touring office is located one block north of Hohermarkt, so centrally located and not too difficult to find. You may book online, over the phone, or in person and there are ample time slots and variety of tours from which to choose. If you do not speak German, all the employees speak English well. You may book day or evening tours and the tours themselves often cover a few districts outside the main tourist centre of the Old City and there is the option to also drive through the hilly suburbs of the Wienerwald or Grinzing. Any option is fun and beautiful and gets you closer to the seeing a diverse chunk of the city in a few hours than any other type of tour can. The tour guides provide you with an ear piece so that you may speak to your guide at any time, who is in a separate car, and s/he will give you as much detail about the history and buildings as you fancy. There are also a few stops along the tour where you are able to pop out of the car, walk around, and take photos. The guide will also stop anytime you want to let you take photos and you can request additional stops to have a coffee and a slice of cake. You need a driver's licence to participate in these tours and may not drink alcohol before or during the tour. The car itself is fast and fun but can require some degree of flexibility to get in and out of the car and can be bumpy on the roads, particularly when you drive at speed. This is just a caution for anyone who may have issues with comfort and the ability to squat down. Quite literally the most fun I have had in years and my favourite way to see Vienna. In terms of price to value for this experience, I strongly feel the moderate expense is well worth it.
