The area

Address
Neighborhood: Leopoldstadt
Welcome to one of Vienna’s trendiest quarters. The second district has witnessed a turbulent ride, from medieval swamp to vibrant Jewish quarter, from pleasure ground for the noble and humble to current hip residence and workplace of Vienna’s creative crowd. Cross the Danube Canal from the city center and take in life on Taborstrasse with its mix of old townhouses, churches, theaters, discount shops and ethnic restaurants. Head for Augarten via Karmelitermarkt, Leopoldstadt’s trendy marketplace. Baroque Augarten itself hosts a bizarre mix of manicured hedges and flowerbeds in front of a colossal World War II defense tower, the publicly accessible 300-year-old Augarten porcelain manufactory, the palatial boarding school and funky concert hall of the Vienna Boys Choir, and the modern art museum TBA21. At its opposite corner, The Prater not only houses the Giant Ferris Wheel but blends a bustling amusement park with lush woodland, perfect for a bike tour. Further east is the old derby racing ground of Krieau.

This is a wonderful collection of finest modern architecture - only steps away from the Prater. Different styles for different usages - accessible and usually open for the public. Don’t miss Zaha Hadid‘s library, the iconic center of the ca 2014 opened new campus of the Business University. Architectural tours are available but should be booked in advance.

One of the places that make the city distinctive.
Six architectural studios from six countries made six buildings of this unique campus.
Lucky students! :-)
You can get there by underground, it is the station Messe-Prater.

An exciting building designed by British architect, by Zaha Hadid, houses the Law Faculty at the University of Vienna. The interior is like a space-ship - absolutely fabulous. We were allowed to wander around most of the building, with the exception of the Vice-Chancellor's suite and the IT section. Amazing experience to walk around the building and see the interior from all different angles.

There are many other contemporary buildings on the campus, easily accessed by public transport, which were really interesting to see. Something to put on the itinerary of anyone interested in architecture, especially in Vienna.

Visited as part of a cycling tour. The campus is interesting due to the modern buildings.

North of the city, near Prater park, it's quite peaceful. We visited on a Sunday afternoon, so no students around, making the place very quiet.

In 2013 the Vienna University of Economics and Business moved to a new location called "Campus WU" which is close to the Prater, Vienna's public park and next to the exhibition center. Very modern architecture - dominant element is the Library & Learning Center which was planned by famous architect Zaha Hadid. A Must-See when in Vienna!

This is short train ride, from the centre of Vienna. Leave behind the monotonous old building and enjoy a fresh new modern area.
Stop off an walk around the business park before finding your into the campus itself.
Just out of this world, what a wonderful place to study.
The designs use a variety of materials, I found the rusted steal façade fascinating, the use of wood, modern facades just amazing.
Haddad's main building is great, not a straight line to be seen.
Well worth a morning visit. Afterwards go into the park and enjoy the greenery and trees, than back to the old city.

Downtown Vienna is known for its beatiful antique architecture.
However, not far from the city center, the new Vienna University of Economics and Business' campus shows a contemporary side of the city.
The open campus, with beautiful and dashing buildings, great and inspiring public spaces make it a great place to visit.
Check the library, which was designed by famous architect Zaha Hadid's office.
The campus also hosts a Mensa headquarters.
It is acessible via the Messe-Prater station.

Most people who visit Vienna concentrate on all the palaces, gardens, museums, and buildings from Vienna's past. Just outside the center, next to the Prater, and easily reached from the Messe Prater underground station, is a small university consisting of the most amazing modern architecture build around Zaha Hadid's beautiful library.

Even you are not a student worthwhile coming here to see the modern and young architecture. Every building is amazing on it's own. You can combine the visit with a snack or drink in the local Campus restaurant. We were simply impressed, maybe also because we had fantastic light from the sunset and blue sky.
