This monument is dedicated to the memory of the Soviet army soldiers who died during the liberation of Vienna from the Nazis. I do not think that it is correct to evaluate this monument from an architectural point of view only. I think it should...More

The biggest memorial dedicated to Red Army soliders who died fighting off Nazis in Europe. One of the very few post communism landmarks. Placed in beautiful square with lovely fountain near and belvedere. One of a kind in whole Vienna!

Memorial for soviet soldiers between schloss Belvedere and stadtpark. Opposite. Pretty fountain too, but I’d probably not be gong out if my way to view it with limited time

Fountain is nice enough, but hardly worth going out of your way to find. It would be more impressive if the Austrians had decided to build it on their own. Probably more graceful too.

As monuments go, it's a wonderful construction of figures depicting how Russian soldiers paid with their lives to retake Vienna. From a westerner's point of view, this is an unknown part of history. It's also the target of dissidents in the 21st century as there...More

This is the "Heldendenkmal der Rotten Armee," a Memorial to the 17,000 Soviet heroes of the Red Army who on April 1945 died in Vienna to free Austria from the Nazis. The monument, designed and built by the Russians, is taken care of by the...More
