The facade of the District Heating Plant Spittelau is lovely and was designed by famous Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser. You should walk by and see it!

... a waste incineration plant! Seriously! It looks much more as a modern art museum or something! But this Hundertwasser’s incineration plant is another masterpiece of this painter/architect: colours and shapes will totally blow your mind! Must-see!

Spittelau is a bit off the road, but if one uses the Vienna transport system it is easily accessible. It is probably the coolest heating plant (Hundertwasser architecture), and moreover it is not crowded around it so one can enjoy the view...

Forget the Hundertwasserhaus - this is far better! Even if you can only visit it from the outside. The Spittelau is right next to a metro station (lines U4 and U6), so it's no big detour from wherever you are in Vienna.

Spittelau waste incineration and district heating plant by Friedensreich Hundertwasser is a beautiful example of expressionist architecture! An organic, eclectic and colourful industrial plant that is also a flamboyant piece of art! Don't miss this icon of the Vienna skyline

Plan your walk around Vienna so you get to see this cheerful heating plant. There is noting except the plant ther, but the Danube canal is near, so you can have a nice walk near the water afterwards.

Didn't go on a tour, but just seeing the outside is worth the trip to this fascinating facility. Travel there easily by train or tram from the city.

Just happened to be on the bus route from our river boat dock into the city, so we went past this structure on several occasions. Simply fascinating what they have done to this waste incinerator plant to make it of interest: it will polarise views...More

At the U Bahn Station Spittelau you will see this very special industrial heating complex by Hundertwasser. It is surprising, colorful, and in a very unlikely situation.
