There are a few contemporary sculptures and other monuments scattered around Schweizergarten including this monument dedicated to Polish composer Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849) called "La Note Bleue". The sculpture is a profile of the composer along with bird flying flying towards the pond where you find this monument. La Note Bleue monument was a gift from Poland to the city of Vienna and was unveiled here in 2010.

I noticed this attraction when using my map app to get directions to the Upper Belvedere, and since there wasn't a readily available photo of the monument online, I decided to check it out.
It had snowed the day before, so it turns out part of the monument was obscured in my photo, but you can see the site in summer at:
http://www.wien.gv.at/umwelt/parks/anlagen/images/chopin-denkmal.jpg
and I think the installation makes more sense this way. I wouldn't suggest making a pilgrimage to see the this monument specifically, but if you're planning to see the Belvedere Palace, then by all means cross the road to take in the Schweizergarten and this unconventional tribute to a great composer.

If you are near the Belvedere, then it is worth a quick look. Most people I guess miss it or dismiss it as they pass. A fitting monument to Chopin. Don’t go especially, but do stop for a moment.

A stop at the Schwarzer Garten park full of charm for lovers of music and art, the beautiful monument dedicated to Chopin, the work of the sculptor Krzysztof M. Bednarski, donated by Poland to the city of Vienna on the bicentenary of the birth of the great musician. The park is located nearby the Belvedere Palace, just in front of the SudBanhof railway station. You'll find the black bronze sculpture beside the little lake at the beginning of the public garden.

I'm happy I ended up seeing this on tripadvisor's map of attractions because it was lovely! It looked nice in the snow but I imagine it's even nicer with the trees green and vibrant in the park.
