Old Viennese Schnapsmuseum

Enjoy the atmosphere of the good old days and let yourself be guided by the Fischer family through the world of spirits and liqueurs!

A personal guide will greet you at the entrance of the Old Vienna patrician home at Wilhelmstrasse 19 in Viennas 12th District. The tour starts in the old office, also known as the Comptoir, with its original furnishings dating back to 1902. With a brief history of the family, you will be transported back to the Imperial Age with all of its charm. Then its on to the next building, the Composition Room. The interior of this room resembles an old-fashioned apothecary, and here you will discover the basics of making schnapps and liqueurs in an entertaining tour.

Last but not least, you will get a chance to taste a wide variety of schnapps and liqueurs at the bar in the large distillery room with the first steam distillation vessels. Homemade juices are available for our guests who do not drink alcohol. On the way to the exit you'll pass through a typical old Viennese inner courtyard.

When I booked this tour I didn't really have any expectations. I have done a couple of tours of previous alcoholic establishments and thought this may be just as commercialised.... how I was wrong. We arrived and was shown into the front office. We were a family of 3; teamed with other groups however there were only 8 people in... More

We were just the two of us but coupled with a huge group of 20-somethings traveling from Australia. They were quite obnoxious, for the most part, and it was very hard to hear and see most of the museum tour through their loud comments and blocking everything. Then when it came to the tasting, it was quite difficult to get... More

Not a large museum, but the owner is a wealth of information. Schnaps has been in his blood for 4 generations and her makes the history of it fun. The tasting afterwards is great

Pretty interesting little museum, you can learn a lot about the history of Schnaps and how they make it. Doesn't take too long, and they have a bunch of different kinds for sale!

The Schnapsmusuem was an included part of our TravelMarvel tour and was quite enjoyable. The tour was hosted by one of the descendants of the Schnapps Company founders and he was amazing - spoke fast but you could take it all in. The tour covered the history and processes in good time and ended in the souvenir shop with a... More

I visited Alt-Wiener Schnapsmuseum in early April. You should book the tour in advance and be at least a group of five people. Since we were only five and didn't want to pay for ten people we asked if we could join another group. They answered very quickly and it was possible to join another group on the next day.... More

You have to arrange a visit here and it is a little out of the city but well worth a visit. Fascinating insight into alcohol production and tasting at the end....we bought several bottles of absinthe and schnapps as the flavours are lovely.

Maybe I had high hopes after the pleasant email exchange when I scheduled the tour for me and three others, but they were certainly crushed when we arrived for the tour. We were half an hour early as the museum is out of the way and is not next to any other landmarks. I should have known right away that... More

Dear Olga, this is our first negative comment since 1990. We are sure that all our products are drinkable. Only the non alcoholic raspberry syrup has to be mixed with water. On weekends we just open for groups with a minimum of ten persons. If you are less than ten, you have to join an existing group at their exact... More

Great experience to visit the literal 'Home' of Schnapps. Great history captured in the entrance room, left exactly as it was at inception, also the only part of the building to escape bombing in the 2nd World War. Be prepared to sample many, if not all the liquors presented in small tasting glasses. There is Juice provided, but why would... More
