A real shame. This is the home of the city modern art collection but has no space to show it. I visited the temporay exhibition here which was small but enjoyable. The gallery is close to the Votivkirche. There isn't enough here for a special visit, but if you are close go. Its free.

I love the MUSA art museum, they have a variety of exhibitions that are interesting. They take part in the Eyes On program which is the month of photography in Vienna. Very inspiring place and for those who live in Vienna, the Artothek is a great program that allows you to borrow art pieces for your house for a small... More

It's easy to pass by this museum on your way to the front of city hall (Rathaus) although you might notice the sculptures placed along the front - an eclectic mix! Anyway, make your way to and go into this free museum. It's a lovely space and the exhibition we saw was well presented and interesting. We also bought some... More

We saw an exposition of photographs of the Vienna city. They were interesting and I really enjoyed some of them. If you like photography, you'll probably like the place. The place was not crowded and, it was free. Just next to the entrance, there were a couple modern sculptures. There was also some sort of impressive iron knight next to... More

Near the Rathaus, this museum is free. It has a clear open space and I visited a photography exhibition of an austrian photographer, whom, for 7 years, walked around each and every single street of thw city of Vienna, discovering its peculiarities. It was nice to have his view on the city, a not so turistic perspective. Really enjoyed his... More

Another small museum in Vienna that doesn't get nearly enough attention. The project/exhibit we saw, "distURBANces" included works offering perspectives on urban, technological, and political developments using photos, videos and installations. It was fascinating. And it was FREE. Only about 2 blocks from the U2/Rathaus station, but you have to look for the signs for the building.

Neighborhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the center. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
