Vienna’s poshest green leafy suburb is also its most romantic hotspot. Walk up Grinzinger Strasse with its many historic wine taverns. The tops of nearby Nussberg and Reisenberg hills make for great strolls through the vineyards, and the occasional discovery of a hidden winery. Popular local weekend hangouts are Neustift am Walde with even more great wine taverns, and café restaurant Cobenzl, up on Cobenzl hill – fantastic for great vistas of Vienna. The woodland around Kahlenberg has a wonderful and not too strenuous hiking path - just don't forget the insect repellent. If you have adventurous children, take them to Waldseilpark Kahlenberg (forest rope park Kahlenberg). A must-do if you want a taste of the Vienna Woods is a stop at Josefinenhütte next door with its great food, cosy interiors and wonderful outdoor space.

- The Royal RamblerUnited Kingdom108 contributionsMoving insight into the life of the great BeethovenWe spent a peaceful and relaxing hour exploring the Beethoven museum. I didn't know much about Beethoven before coming here - only that he was one of the world's greatest composers. There are 6 rooms to explore and a courtyard where you arrive into. The garden is currently closed. An hour here is plenty, and I recommend starting your day here before it gets busy. It's amazing to be in the same rooms that Beethoven once stayed in. To see his piano, sheets of music, and personal effects is very moving. There's so much to explore - even his death mask and a lock of hair are on display. The museum is quite far from the city centre but you can get the metro to Heiligenstadt station and then it's a 15 minute walk to the museum. The area around the museum is tranquil where you feel like you're in a remote village. It's actually a good thing to be away from the centre for a little bit. The museum wasn't crowded and if you arrive in the morning, you can take some really nice photos. Luckily we visited the museum on the first Sunday of February which meant we could enter for free. Most museums are free on the first Sunday of every month in Vienna so it's worth organising your trip around this time. It's worth making time to visit the museum, it gives you some time to reflect.Visited February 2024Traveled with friendsWritten February 11, 2024
- LyraHalifax, Canada56 contributionsSpent half day here – worth the moneyFascinating all around. The main reason I travelled to Vienna was classical music, so this visit made sense. I bought the combined ticket to access all 6 (FYI Mozarthaus is not included). I went there upon opening and spent 3 hours. The six rooms have done an outstanding job of telling Beethoven’s life in Vienna. Also be sure to spend some time in the garden. Good place for a break and quiet reflection.Visited June 2024Traveled soloWritten June 9, 2024

All the exhibits were brilliant, there were about six or seven big rooms filled with interesting stuff. Lots of the items are replicas but it doesn’t detract from the experience. Stayed for about two hours. Staff were lovely too.Visited August 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 31, 2024

This venue is the house museum where Beethoven both lived and worked. An hour or two here and one gains an excellent understanding of the man and his accomplishments, as well as his sad malady -- gradually becoming deaf. If you're a classical music lover, this will be a GREAT experience. If you're a curious person, even if you're not fascinated by classical music, this experience will enlighten and entertain you. Take it slow. Read every display. You will be a different person when you leave. (And, afterwards. there's a great Heurigen just down the street!)

The museum situated in a quiet upper class neighborhood, a 15 min tram ride from city center. Early visit (~10am), not crowded. The exhibition is easy to follow, plenty of interactive/musical pieces. The museum itself is a good embodiment of Beethoven’s personality. Highly recommended.

I rarely give 5 stars, usually 4 if it’s really good. But this is really really good. Personally I am an admirer of Beethoven and I came here to know more about his life. I will not spoil too much about what I learnt about his personal life, so you can come and see for yourself. The museum has 6 sections, each section is a room. There are very interactive exhibitions inside, some very creative indeed. Great for kids. The museum gave detailed view into different perspectives of Beethoven’s life: health condition, inspiration for his works, evolution of some of his work (particularly ‘Tempest’ piano sonata, which was completed in that very house). For casual travellers, around 30 minutes would be enough to finish the museum. For more serious visitors, you can spend here the whole day, studying every exhibit, listening to his works through the speakers inside the rooms. I spent 3 hours there and I was not bored. Listening to the different drafts of Tempest while reading about Tempest is a special experience not every museum about composers can offer. There is a discount if you bought the Vienna City Card, remember to ask the staff.

Visited on a cold day in late February 2023. It's outside of the city center but easily accessible by public transportation. Small museum in Beethoven's residence (a former bakery). This small museum has a few interactive activities throughout five rooms. Worth visiting for anyone involved in music history and education.

If you’re a Beethoven fan, and looking for a nice trip out of Vienna, this is an easy and worthwhile excursion.
Take the U4 to the end of the line, then a bus, and a short walk and you’re in a nice quiet suburban area that in Beethoven’s day was the quiet scenic countryside he was sent to in a failed attempt to save his hearing.
The museum is compact – just 5 small rooms – but has a decent collection of artefacts, and does a good job of telling his life story while allowing you frequent opportunities to listen to recordings.
There’s no café on site so you will need to hunt down a local place for lunch. The entire visit won’t take you more than 90 minutes before you head back, or, do as we do, and head to the nearby Vienna Woods and path #2.

Smallest museum I have ever been.
Entry fee is just 5 euros so you do need to go.

The museum is quite small but well laid out.
There were only one other couple visiting at he same time so we had plenty of time to absorb to amazing collection and absorb parts of this great man’s life.
Well worth the trip on the train from Vienna Karlsplatz

We went on a Saturday morning; Barely anyone there. They say they get school groups during the morning weekdays.. It was extremely informative and very hands on for our 7 year old. (Being a small museum). She could listen and appreciate the music etc.
We drove since it is in the outskirts. If you have an hour or so, I highly recommend.

あの近くに他にもベートーベンが住んでいた家や第九を作曲したと言われる家があります。歩いて行かれます。散歩道も近いです。ハイリゲンシュタットはとても静かで良い所ですよ。
