The area
Neighborhood: Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the center. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.

- BradHong Kong, China177,418 contributionsLovely public garden along RingstraßeThis is one of several monument filled public parks along Vienn'a Ringstraße. Burggarten is the former private garden of the Hapsburgs just beside the Palace which was opened to the public in 1919. The park is open from 6am to 8pm (summer months) and 7 to 5.30pm (winter months) and is beautiful year round. I've enjoyed seeing Burggarten under a layer of snow as well as during warmer months like this past September when the park was vibrantly green, well suited for afternoon visitors basking in the sun on the grassy lawns or retreating to the shade of the benches that line the western end of the garden. You'll find a handful of interesting statues within the garden grounds, something fun for those who enjoy monument viewing. Also look for the charming Palmenhaus in the back near the Palace where you can enjoy a round or two of drinks outside on their terrace during nice weather. Overall, Burggarten is a nice city park conveniently located for a quick pass through even on the busiest of sightseeing schedules around Vienna. For park lovers, it's worth targeting as a place to spend a bit of time while in the city.Visited August 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 21, 2023

As we entered, we immediately walked by the Palm House (also known as the Glass House) was built in the early 1900s. It has three sections, one used as a greenhouse, one as a butterfly house, and the middle one as a cafe. Certainly lovely to look at! On the Sunday afternoon we were there, the park was filled with families and couples sitting on the lawn, playing, sleeping, reading, eating, and people watching. We walked about to see some of the sites, notably the statue of Franz Josef I, the long-ruling Emperor of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, and the Mozart Monument, which was surrounded by people shooting selfies and group photos in front of it. We grabbed a spot on the lawn to relax and enjoy the day!Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 17, 2024

A lovely space but a lot of it was undergoing work when we visited so not accessible due to being fenced off. It was November when we visited and I bet it is glorious in the Spring and Summer. Glad I visited anyway despite the disruption.

The garden spreads out behind the Royal Palace. It is famous for the Mozart statue, but the large lawn is also a great place to relax. It is a beautiful, well-maintained garden. From the Mozart statue, past the lawn, you will find the terrace restaurant Palmen haus and the greenhouse-like Butterfly House. It was a very hot day, so we refrained from lying on the lawn or drinking beer on the terrace. If you are staying in Vienna for a long time, this is definitely a place you'll want to enjoy your time at.

…it has a charm of its own…this “Burggarten” in Vienna!!…not exactly full of flowers…like the “Volksgarten”!!…but here you can find lots of greenery!!l..and statues!!…and do a break in a quiet area of the city!!…and still be close to the most important attractions of Vienna!!…here you can see the statue of Mozart…you get to the Albertina and the Hofburg…the butterfly house and also the structure where the Lipizzaner horses are trained!!…there is also the statue of Hercules…that of Franz Stephen…the husband of Empress Maria Theresa and the statue of Emperor Franz Joseph!!…this is truly a beautiful landmark " Burggarten”!!…in Vienna!!…a must see!!…

This park, frequented by the Viennese, is located in the center of the city. It houses beautiful art deco greenhouses and numerous statues of composers and illustrious people. Among the statues, the most loved by tourists is that of Mozart.

Located between the Hofburg and the Staatsoper, attached to Ringstrasse, the Burggarten became our first daily stop, as in the early hours, it is a pleasure to walk through this quiet park.
Highlights include views to the rear of the Hofburg and the elevated terrace with a café where you can eat at any time. As a curious fact, many of the banks contain plaques in tribute to deceased citizens (it is seen that it is a tradition to pay for this memory).

Park surrounded by Hofburg from one side, Albertina from other. Many other attractions, mostly architectural perks are in walking distance. When we were there, there was farmers market. Great place to sit on grass, enjoy nice weather and feel few centuries back. Great to see in good weather
