If you like Baroque, don’t skip this one
Being over shadowed by the nearby St Stephens Cathedral this church is no doubt less visited. Big mistake not to. If you like Baroque style finishing, this is a must see. Located a short walk from the town square it is certainly a place to sit quietly, enjoy the atmosphere and appreciate the works of art enclosed in the chapel.

Thanks for survival of assassination attempt!
The Votivkirche is a relatively modern church, built between 1856 and 1879 of brilliant white sandstone. The church was built with funds raised by the brother of Emperor Franz Joseph (Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian) in thanksgiving to God for saving the life of the Emperor from an assassination attempt in 1853. The church is beautiful from the exterior, with fabulous spires. The interior is not so ornate but the soaring columns and ceiling makes it very impressive. There are also lots of beautiful stained-glass windows and an ornate altarpiece.

    Impressive Neo Gothic Church
This Neo gothic church (opened in 1879) is quite impressive both outside and inside. It is certainly worth having a look at. There is a remarkable golden retable and some beautiful stained glass works as well.

Votivkirche is without a shadow of a doubt one of the most beautiful churches in Vienna and also a church with a fascinating history.
In a statement of his delight in the sparing of an assassination attempt on Emperor Franz Josephs life in 1853 his brother Archduke Ferdinand Maximillian inaugurated the building of a church and this is how Votivkirche came into existence .
It's such a beautiful church ,the most distinctive features of the church are the 99 metre high twin towers ,it's a great example of Gothic architecture at it's best ,my twin brother Stephen and I passed through the park were the church sites on a bitterly cold night ,the church looked amazing ,beautifully illuminated at night ,there was projected images on the facade of the church that looked cool ,all in all it's a great church to check out if you're near Waehringer Straße .
Most definitely well worth checking out.

This is an old church. It was build by the emperors brother on the spot where someone tried to kill the emperor. The church is large ornate and interesting. It is undergoing a cleaning right now. I really liked it.

The church was erected in the late 1800s and strongly desired by Franz Joseph's brother as a vote to have escaped an attempt. Neo-Gothic style with three naves. Beautiful pipe organ. Inside the church there would also be a museum but in the afternoon it was closed and the opening hours were not written.

For several years this church underwent maintenance works, which are not yet fully completed as of August 2023, but now the church is open and can be visited.

The church is in neo-Gothic style, and it was built to thank God for saving the Emperor's life, after the attempted assassination of Emperor Franz Joseph in 1853.

The church is very beautiful, and there are several interesting pieces visible, but there is no descriptions at all, neither there are personnel who might help in understanding what one is looking at.

There is also a church museum, that was supposed to be open when I visited, but there was only a laconic sign stating "museum geschlosst" (museum closed)

Unfortunately, we did not enter the church due to ongoing maintenance and part of the exterior was shrouded in scaffolding, with a major part of the rest of the structure supporting a major advertisement for Breitling (since when have churches become advertising billboards?). But still easy to appreciate the beauty of the building. The church was built following the attempted assassination of Emperor Franz Joseph in 1853. At the time, the Emperor's brother Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian inaugurated a campaign to create a church to thank God for saving the Emperor's life. The church was dedicated in 1879.

Very interesting and impressive church that speaks to some of the less well known history of the empire. Architecture and decorative treatment is remarkable but not excessively grandiose. Some very interesting plaques and memorials inside. Restorative construction work was under way during our visit and the internal musuem was closed, but the visit was still very worthwhile.

The hotel was right in front of this church, so I had breakfast on the terrace every day while looking at the church. The two spires of this church are very beautiful. The illuminated view at night is especially impressive. It is lit up with white light, not soft yellow light. It feels a little cold, but I think the illumination here suits the sharply pointed tower. By the way, since we were so close, we put off visiting the interior and ended up running out of time. We didn't get to see the stained glass that is rumored to be beautiful. It's a shame. It's a little far from the center (around St. Stephen's Cathedral) and there aren't many tourists. I think it's a hidden gem.

After a renovation period of more than 30 years, the Votive Church of Vienna shines in a new splendour. On November 26, the renovation officially began with the Coronation Fair of W.A. Mozart finished.
