So Much Activity

There is always something going on here -- in summer, there are outdoor movies on a giant screen, or mountain-bike competitions, and in winter there is ice-skating!

Best place to visit christmas or summer. Summer is the right time for the annual film festival held here which brings many food & drink vendors together to give you the opportunity to have a bunch of friends and strangers. Do not miss the Christmas Absolutely divine.

The plaza next to the imposing City Hall Building is almost always alive with activity. A Christmas Market, a circus, a wine festival. Seemingly endless. A place to check out to see what may be going on.

When being there on Christmas you can enjoy tens of stands offering hot beverages, food and souvenirs. Combine it with a view on nice Rathaus building and you have a pleasant evening.

A gem of a place!! During the summertime (July & August) - there is a Music FilmFest - where a huge screen shows operas, classical concerts, etc. for free at 9 pm. But, the best part, is the outdoor food stands - with decent seating. Everything from crepes to Mexican, Asian, and of course, Austrian food stalls, as well as... More

When we visited in August, they had several booths set up serving foods and drinks from around the world. A film fest was going on with free films projected on a big screen in front of the city hall.

Beautiful building and so big! It's hard to get the whole structure in a photo. We went during Christmas and they had one of the best markets in Europe here.

June to 4 September there is a Film Festival on the Wiener Rathausplatz. Not for the films but for the atmosphere, the food and the people. You will see locals and see their way of living. People straight from work at the festival, retired people. Food is nice and a lot of different drinks and food available. I would absolute... More

My friend and I just happened upon an entertaining free video concert in front of the Rathaus. It was suitable for adults, teens and even young kids. There was a lively atmosphere with lots of fast food and drink vendors close by. Great summer evening entertainment.

Staying in Inner City

Neighborhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the center. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
