When we were in Vienna last December, this was the site of the famous Vienna Kriskindlemarkt (Christmas Market). This time, there was a circus setting up on the platz. It's always a busy place, but worth seeing it, as its main attraction is the Rathaus (city hall).

Enjoy the wonderful architecture on a beach below while snacking on a Viennese treat. There is a Circus in attendance until October 2016

Had the pleasure of visiting during the film festival. What a great experience. There was lots of activity, with food and drink stalls selling stuff from all around the globe. I believe there is always something happening at this location all year round. Well worth a visit.

This superb area of Vienna is a brilliant experience at nightime - the architecture takes on a different complexion that is well worth the experience - highly recommended.

As walking past, we were luring by the exciting looking (and smelling!) film festival located here. There was a huge screen positioned in front of the town hall screening films for free with multiple food and drink stalls surrounding. A great atmosphere and really good food and drinks variety. Fantastic event for free!

When we were there, it was the film festival, a huge 300 inch screen was outside the building to showcase a movie each night and perpendicular to it are many food vendors with various food and drinks which was amazing. would definitely recommend visiting.

Visited here when the film festival was open (August).. great place, lots of food and drink outlets serving food from all around the world! We sat around 1 of the fountains and drank local austrian wine and beer which had a terrific ambiance while listing to Madame Butterfly which was playing on the huge screen in front of the Rathausplatz.... All through the summer, there is a film festival in the platz. The films are mainly of performances of classical music, jazz, dance and opera. Along with the films there is an amazing food set-up with cuisines from around the world. And of course - huge amounts of beer! It was so much fun, I even sat there in a... More

Walking around this place is just amazing. The beauty of the building left me loss for words. I also went during the time when there was a music festival of some sort. It was enjoyable.

Staying in Inner City

Neighborhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the center. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
