We went to the rathaus and if there is nothing going on, its nothing special. The rathaus is pretty, but there are many prettier buildings in the city and prettier rathauses in Europe. The reason I still give it 4 star is that the second time we went here there was a festival for a region of Austria and then... More

My daughter and I visited several times over several days when we were in the area. Over the time we were visiting, they had the fan arena set up for Euro 2016. To enter the fan arena you needed to pass through a security check, including a pat down. No problem. This was a fun set up and there were... More

To be honest, I first meet the plaza during the Euro 2016 (there was a fan fest), and it looked spectacular. Don't know if it is a regular place to locate local celebrations or events, but it's quite nice.

The City Hall plaza is a wonderful area to be around, but do not forget to get inside the building. The stained glasses are wonderful.

Nice to see how the buildings have been kept or restored. The UEFA coverage was being held here at the park in front of the building.

We were unable to get the full aspect of the area due to the football being shown. Seeing it lit up at night made it feel magical. Lovely garden area.

This lovely park is just around the corner from the Hofburg Palace and well worth taking the time to see. We were there on a rainy Monday and felt like a local hanging out in the park. All the others definitely have the tourist vibe, but not this. Put it on your list.

The Rathaus or the City Hall of Vienna is among the most beautiful edifices in Vienna. It's an remarkable example of Austrian Gothic architecture. With its five turrets it dominates the surrounding area. Looks specially great at night when illuminated. The Rathausplatz is a small square in front of the City Hall, where's always something happening. Been there several times... More

Staying in Inner City

Neighborhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the center. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
