Neighborhood: Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the center. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.

Little hidden off Karntnerstrasse. I veered into Neuer Markt upon finding out from Google Map that it was nearby but was disappointed to discover that the whole area was cordoned off. Apparently some construction to refresh Neuer Markt area is ongoing. There'll be new restaurants and a jewellery boutique once the Neuer Markt is reopened. For now just enjoy the not so pretty sight of the area.

The Neuer Markt has the Donner Fountain. This became famous in 1995 because it was featured in the movie Before Sunrise. It was built in 1739 by George Raphael Donner. Each figure represents one river of the Donnerbrunnen.

The most famous building is the Capuchin church . Below her is the Capuchin crypt is the resting place of the Habsburgs .

A small square in the historic city center that we enjoy spending time is the Neur Market, found just off Kaerntner Strasse, only a few minutes walk from Stephensplatz and other important attractions in the area.

In our view, the most interesting attraction at Neur Market is Kaisergruft (Imperial Tombs), located on the grounds of the Capuchin Church. This is a remarkable holding of royal tombs from the Hapsburg dynasty. There is a very nice Donner Fountain to see here as well

Neur Market has few bars, restaurants and konditoreis. We particularly like Kurkonditorei Oberlaa and have enjoyed the bar found at the Austria Trend Hotel, which is also a convenient hotel option for those keen to stay in the city centre. We have stayed there in the past and had a nice stay.

Overall, not a high priority place to target in Vienna but the square is quite conveniently located for those intending to spend time in the historic city centre and make make a good place to spend a bit of time, especially if you are interested in seeing the Royal Crypt.

The Capuchin Church is the most important building on this plaza. The Thunder Fountain is a very nice fountain in the middle of the square.

Just off the busy Kaerntnerstrasse area, you can find Neurer Market, which is a quiter place to spend some time. Here you can find a few hotels, few restaurants, bars and the Imperial Crypt located at the Capuchin Church directly on the square.

There is a nice fountain, called the Donner Fountain, which acts as the centerpiece of the Neuer Markt area. Unfortunately, like all other fountains in Vienna, it holds no water at this time of year. The Kapuziner-Kirche (Capuchin Church) is where you can find the most impressive Kaisergruft (Imperial Tombs) - the resting place of entire Royal family through the centuries. This is a worthy attraction for all visitors to Vienna so its very likely you'll find yourself at Neuer Markt at some point during your trip.

We dined at Ferdinant Bar & Restaurant on the square, finding their meat goulash dish worthy of a return visit. Similarly, our breakfast at the Konditorei Oberlaa was also very good. More trendy and contemporary bar and restaurant options were found at the other end of Neuer Markt as well as a useful supermarket under the Neuer Markt Pension hotel. What Neuer Markt doesn't have was an open-market scene like what you can find at the Nacht Markets.

In the end, we enjoyed time spent in the Neuer Markt area and would purposely visit this area again when next in Vienna.

Lots of different asian restaurants are on this street. If you're craving for some, there is no better place to start. It even has an Asian minimarket.

Neuer Market (New Market) is ironically the one of the oldest market squares in the city of Vienna. It is conveniently located in the first district of the Innere Stadt with quick walking distance of the Hapburg Palace, Stephensplatz and Kaertnerstrasse.

There is historical reference to market place existing here as far back as the early 13th-century. Today, the small square is surrounded by modern buildings, including a hotel, several restaurants and eateries and bars. Of those, we particularly enjoy Kurkonditorei Oberlaa for there apple strudel and delicious cakes.

As for sightseeing you can see the Capuchin Church and Imperial Crypt (Kaisergruft) at Neuer Market. There is an interesting centre fountain called Donnerbrunnen that is worth a look-see as well. During our recent visit, we found Neuer Market under a thin layer of snow which made for nice views of the square
