The Bastei has such history associated with it dating from 1535 when known as the Scottish Bastei. Renamed after Melk Abbey in 1656 by Emperor Ferdinand 111 when he had it enlarged. Except for remnants of the city wall( that are visible today) that linked 2 towers all was demolished from 1861-1872. Walk up the steps & in doing so see the wall remains.
The Pasqualati Haus is where Beethoven lived for 9 years & where he wrote 4 symphonies, the Opera Fidelio, Piano Concerto No4 & string quartets. The Museum is on the 4th floor.
There are many quaint homes here to view such as the nearby Drei Madel Haus.
