In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the center. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.

One of the more beautiful fountains we saw whilst in the Austrian capital.Again like others have mentioned the fountain was not switched on unfortunately,we discovered it whilst walking along the Neuer Markt on our way to meet our coach.Worth a picture stop or just to sit and enjoy.

I believe that this one located near the center of Neuer Markt represents the four rivers that surround the city with figures. This is centrally located so you will probably stumble upon it and is just off a main Kaerntnerstrasse. There are several pleasant restaurants located just a stone's throw away that are worth taking if you are hungry at the time.. Especially good at lunch.

The Baroque Donnerbrunnen Fountain on Neuer Markt Square became famous in 1995 because it was featured in the movie Before Sunrise. It was built in 1739 by George Raphael Donner. Each figure represents one river of the Donnerbrunnen.

This fountain is in between the Vienna State Opera and St. Stephens Cathedral. When you walk along the Karntner Strasse from Vienna State Opera and before reaching Stephansplatz you will come across this beautiful fountain. A 10 minute stop to admire and take some pictures. and then move on...

If you are walking the Karntnerstrasse from the opera house to St. Stephan's, about half way, and about one block off the Main Street is the Donner Brunner, a statute and fountain depicting Providentia, the symbol of good government, surrounded by 4 statues, 2 men, 2 women, representing the four tributaries of Austria. It is a large fountain with nicely sculptured statutes. It is in Neuer Markt, but it visible from Karntnerstrasse.

We stumble upon the fountain while looking for a stand that sell Gluhwein. Luckily, the stand of Gluhwein was directly setup next to this very beautifully designed fountain. We actually drank our Gluhwein while resting against it and admiring its beautiful design. A great spot to relax and enjoy the scenery that Vienna has to offer!

The Donner Fountain is quite beautiful and dominates the square where it is located. The center has the allegory of destiny, called Providentia. The four figures around it represent the four rivers of Austria.

There is a nice fountain called the Donner Fountain, which is found in the centre of Neuer Markt, just off the main Kaerntnerstrasse for those interested in fountains. Unfortunately, like other fountains in the city, this one holds no water this yearly in the year (March) so you are left to admire the fountain figures instead.

Other attractions worth visiting near the Donner Fountain include the Capuchin Church and Crypt, where the royal tombs are located. There are also some good restaurants found here. We found meals taken at Ferdinandt Restaurant and Konditorei Oberlaa to both be quite good and worthy of return visits.

In the center of baroque fountain there is a sculpture of woman Providence, she is surrounded by an old man Enns, Ybbs, woman with the jug, Morava, woman with a historic picture, and a fellow Traun to fish a trident in a fountain. These are the allegories of the Austrian rivers. A sculptor George Raphael Donner created these sculptures in the middle of 18 century. A fountain was open to the name-days of Emperor Carl V.
