Address
Neighborhood: Josefstadt
The eighth district is an older generation’s Vienna at its finest: and this is what makes it popular with locals of all ages. Josefstadt has theater, small independent shops, romantic passageways, neighborhood cafés with regular clientele, church squares, town palaces and shady communal gardens. Trendy hangouts have conquered distinctive places such as the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH) and the vaults of overground U6. Theater in der Josefstadt on Josefstädter Strasse is the district’s cultural epicenter. Even if your German isn’t good enough to watch a play, you can marvel at the typical Biedermeier building and take a glimpse into the foyer. Lange Gasse houses an iconic local restaurant at its corner, as well as a legendary sweet shop and a bustling neighborhood market every Saturday. For small palace atmosphere and a different view on Vienna’s history, make your way to Schönborn garden palace (Palais Schönborn), which houses the Museum of Folk and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum). Maria-Treu-Platz, with its summer outdoor cafés facing baroque church Maria Treu, and the historic passageway of Lerchenfelder Strasse 13 hide top spots for insiders.

There is fantastic music and theatre in Vienna, but a lot of it is expensive. The English Theatre fitted the bill - great value for a terrific evening. Excellent production. An intimate theatre, all the seating is fine and the theatre itself is atmospheric, with a nice bar. A short walk from the Parliament tram stop, the Theatre is close to Cafe Eiles a large traditional Viennese coffee house - for before, or after theatre refreshment.

What a great nice and intimate theater. The change of scenery of having an English play in Vienna was really excellent. Great cast and great play. Wonderful seats, there is no real bad place in the house, all are nice. Only challenging part was the break. Not enough room to relax and have a drink when the place is sold out. But it did not really bother us.

Came across this gem just around from our hotel. Who would have thought of the concept of a theatre putting on English plays in a German speaking country? Anyway, went to the evening production of Barefoot in the Park out of a bit of morbid interest...and was thoroughly pleased we did. As with all comedy, timing is everything and the actors delivered english humour with perfect timing, in perfect American accents. It was truly surreal in the bar during the interval with a multitude of languages being spoken, all watching a comedy in English. If Barefoot in the Park was an example of the quality of production in this beautiful little theatre then I would thoroughly recommend checkinhg out thier latest production when you're in town.

Productions in this theater do not have long runs, so it may not be meaningful to review a specific production. This is the second one I have attended, and the productions have been very well done at a reasonable price. The venue is comfortable, and not far from a U-Bahn stop.

We really enjoyed a production of Neil Simon's "Barefoot In The Park" in this atmospheric old world theatre. The cast, stage set and music were all top class and portrayed life in the sixies to a tee. It was lovely hearing songs like" Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head "and "What Do You Get When You Fall In Love" in the context of that era. People enjoyed it so much that they were still laughing in the lobby after the performance.
The pictures and posters in the lobby serve as a testament to the achievements and proud history of this theatre.
It is a lovely warm and comfortable theatre with a nice cafe.
An absolute gem.

I visited it on 10th of December, to watch the Ring of Fire, for Johnny Cash .
Great little place, full of atmosphere, beautiful songs, and funny stories of Johnny.
The cast of the show were a very talented group from the USA who all played a variety of instruments.
A perfect place to enjoy a show for non German speakers in WIEN

We enjoyed attending a very professsionally produce comedy at this theater (better than a long heavy dinner) and a great dinner at Trilogie around the counter
