About
The Raimund Theater was opened in 1893 as a public theater. Since 1987 it belongs to the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien and is the venue for breathtaking musical productions. Currently, the house has to undergo an urgent refurbishment and modernization and is therefore closed for the next months. In January 2021, the theater will be reopened in new splendor.

Vienna’s sixth district hosts high street shopping heaven and pedestrian area Mariahilfer Strasse. The weirdest local building is probably the city aquarium Haus des Meeres, housed in one of Vienna’s six remaining World War II defense towers, and topped with a rooftop bar that offers stunning views over Vienna and the center. One of the most historic sites in the area is the passageway of 18th century Raimundhof with its small shops and cafés. It leads from Mariahilfer Strasse to Windmühlgasse. For a glimpse into the world of early 19th century theater, visit Semperdepot, the former depository for theater decoration, which now hosts art exhibitions and fairs.

Saw Rebecca at the theatre which was excellent. The cast and staging were first class and cannot be faulted. We choose this production due to translation being available from the performance language of German. Sadly from our seats the translation was difficult to read and leaving my wife not really following the story due to her limited German. A point of praise to the theatre drinks were reasonably priced and the cloakroom was free!

We went to the Raimund Theater for the Miss Saigon Musical. It was fantastic! The performance was superlative. Due to the pandemic, the show had been postponed but it was really worth the wait. Kudos to all the performers who did a wonderful job!

We really enjoyed this rock musical about the life of Mozart. At times deeply touching, at times with a tongue-in-cheek attitude, the story comes together really well. The choreography is simply amazing: while the leads are very good, it's the wonderful backing troupe that turns the musical into a truly great performance. The show is in German, but there are several screens with subtitles in English easily readable from any place in the audience.
For the break, there is an option of pre-ordering the drinks to skip the line to the buffet; unfortunately, there is no way to avoid the long line to the ladies' room which is definitely too small for such a large theater, and the narrow foyers get very crowded during the break and after the show.
The theater itself is quite far from the center, so a car or a taxi may be an option, but there are also two metro stations within walking distance (U6 and U4).

This is a review for the theatre and the show Elisabeth the Musical based on the life & death of Empress of Austria. This is a musical that has been running for a number of years all over Europe. It was spectacular and certainly as good, if not better than Broadway or the West end. I have followed this musical from the start and it was great to see it at last. And although it was sung in German there was a screen on either side of the stage with the English translation, what a great idea ? There is a DVD of the show but at the moment without subtitles. But you can watch it on You-Tube
Unlike Broadway or the West End the theatres in Vienna seem to be spead all over the city, so a Taxi was needed. Having got to the theatre, it was a very pleasant experience harking back to a time in england when people dressed up a little more and made the evening more special, No drinks allowed in the auditorium. Great. I have never understood why someone cannot survive for an hour without a drink, its just a money making exercise for the theatre owners. and then in the interval, free coffee & biscuit was offered. find me a London theatre that would do the same. GREAT Show , GREAT Theatre

We went there to see an Austrian musical (I have never been to New York) and I was pleasantly surprised to see English subtitles posted next to the stage. Great actors, lovely setting.
Have dinner at 'The Mill' restaurant before, only a few hundred metres away.

I came here to watch Mamma Mia and I don't speak German. The ushers speaks English. However, I was disappointed that they don't know the theater by heart since I have to move from the original seating they gave me to a different one. The theater in general has a good ambiance. The show did not started on time and you cannot actually drink inside the theater. Also, if you have your jacket on, you cannot take it off during the show if you chose to wear it inside the theater.
The show in general was good.

Please change the status of Raimund Theater to open. We were captivated with Miss Saigon and a helicopter scene brings the audience to tears

Yes I am- but living in the US.. so seeing this musical was a little of traveling back in time... listening to songs, by R. Fendrich I grew up with... including Austria’s second national Anthem... loved the English sub titles for my not German speaking family! Great addition... the show has been selling out for a reason and the standing ovation at the end was no surprise!
Very well arranged, great enthusiastic performers, in all areas - you could feel their joy and energy!!
Just a great evening spend in a lovely setting!!
Congratulations to all at the Raimund Theater

Where are subtitles placed? Thank you.
a) above the stage, or
b) the sides of the stage

They are to the side of the stage. Not great positioning at all, to be honest.

What do you think about the seating? Should I book the VIP or either A or B is fine?

Of course, it'' be better to book VIP, because there won't people in front of you and you can watch for orchestra.
