Skating outside through the trees at dusk in the twinkle lights before such a beautiful castle will forever be a favorite skating experience. Recommend to skate at dusk, arriving by 430 to beat the crowds and wearing two layers of socks to avoid blisters.

We were told about the ice rink by friends who had been in vienna a few days and told we had to visit. On our wandering around the parliament and museum areas we walked over and found it to be a lovely place. We are not one for ice skating, however found it enjoyable to walk around taking photos of... It's my second time, again with rented skates. Skates are bad in terms of fit and sharpening, better take your own. Also they don't warn you beforehand but their ticket has some values when giving it back. They try to care about environment, however in my case they failed as I have thrown the ticket to a trash bin. Please... More

If you are lucky enough to be in Vienna in winter when the Rathaus grounds are converted into a ice skating park, be sure to visit. The skating park is designed as a constellation of medium sized rinks linked together by zigzagging pathways that you can explore as a complete novice or an experienced skater. There is also plenty to... More

If you are in Vienna from the beginning of February till march you MUST go skating at the massive outdoor rinks and paths outside the town hall. It is not widely advertised when you are there- my daughter and myself stumbled upon it when out a walk. We loved this and it was one of the highlights of our trip!... More

If you are in Vienna and the rink is up and running, make it a point to go, you will not be disappointed. Not only are there 2 rinks to skate in, there are skating paths to let you skate through the park. Not only is it a great skating experience but you get to skate around some of the... More

Fabulous cold night.....spent watching the skaters have such fun. Great activity in the city during the winter months. Well set out, with ticket booth and places to eat, drink. Area meanders on down through the park on a ''one way system''.....Looks magical and gives pleasure to so many.... Well worth a visit if not to skate to watch, and join... More

Whether you take part in the skating, this place is such a wonderful corner of Vienna. Surrounded by beautiful architecture, its food and wine stands, the sky view tower, it all add to such an atmosphere of excitement. Looks magical in the evening.

We did not ice skate but enjoyed watching the skaters and everything else. It is like one happy Happy Hour, except no one is drunk. Families, college students, teenagers all having fun. The music is great, the vendors are wonderful. It is one happy time! We spent hours here enjoying the fun. It is so nice to see people embracing... More

Spent our Saturday morning there and enjoyed it a lot. When we started it wasn t so busy, so we enjoyed almost "private" skating a fair amount of time. The ice ring is simply huge. We then got food from one of the hut restaurants around the ring and after skating a bit more. Used the tram to get there,... More

Neighborhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the center. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
