The drive is long but if you want to see something you take a tour knowing how long it will be before you book it
The hotel pick up at 7am was 10 min late. We were transferred to another hotel and waited for a larger bus. We started the drive to Salzburg around 8am. While driving to Salzburg from Vienna, tour guide announced accident on highway and took us...More

Welcome to one of Vienna’s trendiest quarters. The second district has witnessed a turbulent ride, from medieval swamp to vibrant Jewish quarter, from pleasure ground for the noble and humble to current hip residence and workplace of Vienna’s creative crowd. Cross the Danube Canal from the city center and take in life on Taborstrasse with its mix of old townhouses, churches, theaters, discount shops and
ethnic restaurants. Head for Augarten via Karmelitermarkt, Leopoldstadt’s trendy marketplace. Baroque Augarten itself hosts a bizarre mix of manicured hedges and flowerbeds in front of a colossal World War II defense tower, the publicly accessible 300-year-old Augarten porcelain manufactory, the palatial boarding school and funky concert hall of the Vienna Boys Choir, and the modern art museum TBA21. At its opposite corner, The Prater not only houses the Giant Ferris Wheel but blends a bustling amusement park with lush woodland, perfect for a bike tour. Further east is the old derby racing ground of Krieau.

our day trip to Salzburg includes some of the famous places where the film Sound of Music was shot. For instance the amazing area called Salzkammergut, this part of the country offers to the visitors scenic towns, clear lakes, high mountains and the typical Alpine landscape.
In the small town called Mondsee , there is the Church where Maria and the Baron Von Trapp got married, is the place where the Trapp children stared their bicycles tour along the lake with the same name Mondsee and then after 20 kilometers we have another place called Sank Gilgen ( Saint Gilges) it is not only the birth town of Mozarts Mother, but also the place where the Trapp childrens took a ride with the steam locomotive climbing the mountain.
In Salzburg, you'll see Mirabell Palace Garden`s , (where it possible to contemplate the view of the old city) close to the main entrance we have the Pegasus Fountain , here is the place where Maria and the 7 children did their famous “Do, Re, Mi” dance and in the same area quite close to it exit we have a kind of hedgerow maze (featured in the movie) and at the exit the famous monuments were Maria and the Trapp children performed this long and funny scene.
Before entering the old down town Salzburg we have the river banks of the Salzach as well as the fortress where some scenes and photos were done for the movie.
At the old historical area, there is the Residence Square, in this place Maria was singing here her very tender melody, "I have confidence", meanwhile she was waiting for her bus going to the Trapp Mansion. In the same location, there is a speed scene with a car during the invasion of the Nazis.
Of course it is possible if you go by yourself to visit the former imperial stables where the last performance the Trapp Family took place ( nowadays it is a big Theater complex not open for visits) or in only 10 minutes walking distance we have the Nonnberg Nonnery were Maria wanted to become a nun and the last place it is the San Peters Cementery, here we have to remark that the producers were short of money and they decided to reproduce that place in one studio in the USA for the great escape-scene.
Some more places are either outside the city or meanwhile in private hands closed for the public. Kind regrads, Andrea/Royal Tours Vienna

I got it booked through the hotel i stayed. Nestro Wien. I think these guys are pretty popular with the local hotels. Mostly likely you should be able to see some sort of fliers or brochure at the hotel reception. You can book it with just one or two days advance notice. The trip was wonderful and i recommend it.
