If you are interested in doing something totally different while in Vienna and have a day to spare and love the outdoors like my family and I do, then this is the activity for you. The Austrian Alps are like nothing I've ever seen. Even My very picky, in need of an attitude adjustment teenager indicated that it was his favorite thing we did while in Austria. Yannick was so much fun and a very knowledgable hiking guide. He especially made the trip enjoyable with his sense of humor and wonderful disposition. My pics tell it all!! I look fwd to hiking the Austrian Alps again if I ever return the Vienna:-)

We had just one day moderate trekking on Rax - and it was our best day in Vienna. City is nice, but mountains are beyond comparison. The trek is good - interesting, not very hard but long enough for feeling that it's not just a walk. Perfect views all the time - every moment you can enjoy beauty of nature: mountains, woods, flowers. And even goats - I was lucky to see one chamois goat.

Strudel in the cafe near the Rax top in very delicious.

Thank you, Yannick :)

Our hike with Yannick was one of the best experiences of my entire trip! He was kind enough to accommodate us even though we messaged him last minute, and is a fun and knowledgeable guide. Hikes with him are suitable for a variety of experience levels and he is patient and happy to share information about the mountains and Austria in general. The hike was challenging but really enjoyable and even though my friends and I aren't experienced hikers he guided us at a comfortable pace. I would definitely recommend this hike--one of my favorite Europe experiences yet!

The weather was not perfect, but what a nice group! I appreciated spending the day with you all. The weather played against us but we had the chance to see a herd of mountain goats!

We did a private tour with a family of 5, snow shoeing. In December 2011.

Yannick, was more then I ever could of asked for. If I would of set down and made my own guide explaining that I am bringing my two children, my mother-in-law and my husband who seems to lose some of his patients in the cold. My guide would not of been half as great as Yannick.

He had all the equipment we needed including extra gloves that saved my mother-in-laws hands and great small snow shoes for my 7 year-old.

The meeting location was perfect. Exceeding every expectation, he even had child seats for both of the children!! I was very impressed right away.

The hike was beautiful he kept us out of the wind and when the sun came out the view was stunning. Yannick was so patient with our group. We were a little slower with the kids and just wanted to go for the experience. He went as far and the kids wanted to go and then we headed back. He took every hill my son could find on the way down to slide on. My son still won't stop talking about his friend Yannick.

We even saw him with his family at the zoo and they were all just as kind and outgoing as Yannick. If you are going to Vienna take a day with Yannick to get out of the city!!

I booked a private hike with my partner into the Styria Alps with Yannick as our guide (we were only in Vienna during the week, so there were no pre-scheduled hikes that we could go on, so we booked the private tour).

We were lucky because the weather in November can be terrible, but we got lots of sunshine, literally walking above the clouds.

The hike itself was excellent. It was a moderate intensity hike where we were walking for about 6 hours, and we also had about a one hour stop for lunch at a very peaceful spot on top of a ridge in the warm sunshine. We reached the summit of a mountain at about 2,000 metres, we had done a loop around the mountain so we saw a lot of scenery.

Yannick was a terrific guide, very knowledgable about the local weather, terrain, environment, animals, plants, and history. He speaks German, French and English.

I do recommend taking a private tour as it was very peaceful, you can set your own pace pretty much, and Yannick consults you about where you want to go and what difficulty you want. I'm sure the group tours are excellent too.

We had an excellent time, and I would recommend the hike to anyone. Especially those with limited hiking experience who want to experience the Austrian countryside.

You do pass by a few mountain huts, most were closed for us as it is Winter, apparently usually you can get a beer and a meal if you want. Otherwise though, you need to pack lunch, and also take enough water with you (we took a litre each and it wasn't quite enough). Also make sure to wear good shoes, our hiking boots were a godsend.

Thanks Yannick :)

My daughter and I went on a 7.5hour hike with Yannick and had a fantastic day. He was informative and very personable, as well the scenery and landscape was breathtaking. The hike was the highlight of my trip to Vienna if not the highlight of my entire European vacation. This experience is something that my daughter and I can cherish for a lifetime. Thank you so much Yannick for this incredible adventure.

This 3 day trekking trip with Yannick was unforgettable. It will provide you with a physical challenge (it may even kick your butt in places). it will deliver spectacular, exhilirating and pristine scenery (amazing how Yannick took on us trails for hours without seeing one human, only Ibex and Capricorns). It will motivate you to meet other people from other cultures and share new friendships. You will learn how to pack lightly (don't bring too many bananas or sausages or spare batteries). You will eat meals you think were made just for you in mind - delicious. And, Yannick, will all the while guide you safely, teach you about the Alps, give you hiking pointers and just be a genuinely professional and caring leader. I would give this 6 stars if I could!

The tour I was on, got cancelled that day before, because to many participants had dropped off last minute which was really annoying. What was more frustrating, is that Yannick never answered my email asking for places to go on my own. It would have taken him a couple of minutes to point in the right direction to go hiking on my own. In the end I manage to find a good place that was close to Vienna, Semmering. So I suggest save the money and to go hiking on your own it's really easy.

4 persons canceled their participation in the last minute. It happens very rarely and is very annoying for the other participants and for me too. I fully understand your disappointment and will take your review in consideration to improve the service I offer. I lead groups with a minimum of 7 persons. If the minimum number of participants is not reached, I inform the interested persons well before the hike (in this case immediately after the 4 persons canceled the tour). Regarding point 2, I usually get more than 20 inquiries per week from people looking for informations where to go hiking by their own, without taking a guide. Even if it is not the purpose of my job (I work as a guide, not a an information center) I usually answer those requests as soon as I have time for it by giving the best information I have. I am pleased that you could finally find a place to go even if this place (Semmering) offers very limited hiking options (only in the woods) in comparison of the places where I guide my groups (alpine terrain, above the tree line, in the northern limestone Alps, etc.).

We visited Vienna in September of 2014 and booked a day hike with Yannick. It was great to get out of the city and into the mountain area. I have nothing but good things to say about the entire day. Everything was on time and professional. The hike itself was excellent for hiker and non hikers, challenging at times but do-able. The spectacular views exceeded my expectations. It's a great mix of greenery, mountain and sky. We left with by far the best pictures of our entire trip to Europe. Yannick was a great mountain guide, and really easy going guy in general.

I would encourage anyone in the area to take a day and experience this mountain area.

This was also my first snowshoeing experience and while I must admit I wanted to stop less than 1 hour into the hike, Yannick was very encouraging and urged me on. The view along the way was awesome and the scenery was just picture perfect. I was so thrilled but was too cold to take any photos. Fortunately Yannick has got that arranged as well. Thanks Yannick for such a memorable hike.
