In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the center. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.

2020 is the year of Beethoven's 250th birthday. The musical world is going gaga about it. What better time to visit Vienna, the city where the composer spent many of his formative years. Go around the city and see the monuments, the square, the houses, and museums where Beethoven is celebrated.

This statue is prominently situated in Beethovenplatz, close to the Konzerthaus. There are really two statues: the more traditional one in the center of the square and on the side of the road, the newer "different" one. You can decide for yourself which one appeals to you more.

This monument to Maestro Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1828) who spent much of his live in Vienna is located at Beethovenplatz around 5 minute walk southwest of Stadtpark. It is the work of German sculptor Kaspar von Zumbusch (1880) and is depicts Beethoven as a serious figure, seated and looking down upon those who stand before the monument. He is also surrounded by an allegorical arrangement of bronze angels, mythical figures and cherubs placed upon the multilevel statue base.

It is a nice monument to view and easy to combine with the various statues of musicians and artists in nearby Stadtpark. Have a look-see if you are in the area and enjoy this type of sightseeing.

This monument stands in tribute to Ludwig von Beethoven,

The monument is a bronze sculptural group with Beethoven at it’s centre. The sculptural group all sit on a stepped pedestal. At the bottom are 9 youths, an allusion to the 9 symphonies composed by Beethoven. Flanking the pedestal are Prometheus and Nike, an allegorical reference to the deliverance and victory of the music of Beethoven. Finally, atop the pedestal is a stereotypical image of Beethoven with his famously curled hair and moody look.

A fine monument to a fine composer. Sadly, the monument is off the main tourist circuit, but it’s worth a look if you’re in the area.

My favorite Monument in Vienna. But seems to be neglected.

A gorgeous statue located in the Beethovenplaz, a small lovely park. Close to the Stadtpark, the Konzerthaus and Hotel InterContinental Vienna.

If you visit any one of those places/ buildings, you can take a 2 minutes’ walk to the Beethovenplaz. To see the great musician, and a masterpiece of a great artist (Caspar von Zumbusch ).

The Beethoven Statue is an impressive bronze structure in Beethovenplatz and was created by sculptor Caspar von Zumbush. The statue was commissioned by Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde - Society of the Friends of Music and was unveiled in 1880, since then it was moved to its current location along Lothringerstrasse. Our hotel room overlooked the statue and we noticed that it had hardly any visitors during our stay apart from a few tourist coaches, it is a statue that is worth a visit and is a couple of minutes walk from Stadtpark.

The Vienna-based German composer Ludwig Van Beethoven monument on Beethovenplatz in the Austrian capital Vienna is a bronze statue from the year 1880.

The monument depicts the seated Beethoven in a strictly historical style on a square base over a multi-level, laterally rounded pedestal.

At the sides of the pedestal sit Prometheus (during the vulture's attack) and Nike (Victory, a winged female with laurel wreath), they impersonate the suffering for the sake of humanity and eternal glory.

On the front and back of the pedestal are nine putti: "The composer's gift to the world is symbolized by a ring of nine putti, five in front and four in back, who represent - on one level - the nine symphonies. The (left-handed!) lute player in the center (the only putto with wings) of the front group is balanced by the figure of a swan on the verso of the monument - possibly a literal reference to Beethoven's swan song of the Ninth Symphony."

The Beethoven statue on Beethovenplatz is ugly. It depicts Beethoven looking down with a moody glare with a series of cherubs and what might be angels sat beneath him. The sculpure is perfectly reasonable, the quality of the artistry is fine. Beethoven himself seems to be fat and ugly. He is not given a charismatic pose nor is he depicted in any way that reflects what his legacy could be. It is just another statue.

It is just another ugly statue. It is not among the best kept of Vienna's attractions. Beethovenplatz itself is not attractive and the statue seems to blend in. The grass and small path around the statue are far from Vienna's cleanest.

The levels up to the statue are ok and a decent height for a very small child to want to walk up.

As a monument it does not do justice to the legacy. As a statue it is not especially inspiring or attractive. It does not really stand out and most would quite easily walk on by without taking a second moment. It is not an attraction to go out of one's way to see.

It’s a nice statue, in a very small park. I can see this from my room at the Intercontinental and took a quick walk by on my way downtown. I wouldn’t make a special trip unless you’re a super fan of Beethoven or already in the area. The park was rather dirty when I visited, although there are plenty of benches to relax awhile.
