While in Vennia i signed up for the 12 hour (one day) tour of alpine village in western part of Austria. It was fantastic seeing 3 peaceful picturesque villages nestled in the Alps! We had 3 1/2 hours in Hallstatt where if you rush you can do both boat ride and funicular up to the Skylark walkway over the lake. Breathtaking views!! A tour I will long remember. Plus my driver/tour guide Balazs was very kind, helpful and accommodating.

Just returned from a small group tour by White Alligator from Vienna to Budapest. I highly recommend this tour for anyone who wishes to add another city within couple of hours from Vienna. The tour was very interesting with Marco our guide very knowledgeable and proving an interesting commentary throughout the journey. Comfortable vehicle and a safe driver.

It was my friend who researched Hallstatt day trips and decided on this tour company. I must say she made a good decision. White Alligator Tours was responsive to emails, accommodating and organized.

Peter was our driver/guide. He was very punctual, arriving about 15 minutes early. He was friendly, has very good command of English and spoke in a relaxing manner.

Peter made various commentaries on key areas we were passing. He shared tidbits of information, ranging from trivial things to Christmas markets, to Viennese political parties, to housing, to geography, to sports rivalry, famous Austrians, etc. He was very knowledgable on the lake region. He also indulged our questions and answered accordingly. I think he noticed we became quiet and a bit sleepy at some point, paused his commentaries and allowed us to nap.

There were regular restroom/coffee breaks, about 15-30mins for each stop. He regularly reminded us that it will be no problem if we needed more quick breaks.

Our first stop for photo-op was Attersee. We admired the view for a bit then we were on our way. Peter then talked a bit about the movie The Sound of Music, and decided to stop at Mondsee (where the wedding scene was filmed) since we mentioned we were familiar with the movie. Our next stop was St. Gilgen/Wolfgangsee where Mozart’s mother was born. We then proceeded to Hallstatt.

Peter explained that he will hand us off to a local guide at Hallstatt and that we’ll have about 2-3 hrs of free time and departure will be at 4:30pm. Our guide at Hallstatt (my apologies for forgetting her name 😔) was very good and also friendly. Hallstatt is really a lovely town with breathtaking scenery. We got to appreciate it more because of our local guide, who accompanied us for about an hour. We selected a restaurant for lunch but service was a little slow. We initially planned to go up the funicular and the salt mines but we thought we might run out of time so ultimately decided against it and just walked around and perused the many shops. Peter was already waiting for us in an easy to spot location in the parking lot. We left Hallstatt when it was just getting dark. On the way back, Peter reminded us to tell him if we wanted toilet breaks. We didn’t; and so Peter drove for 3 hours straight. With Peter’s smooth driving, we dozed off one by one, awakening sporadically. Peter resumed his commentaries when we were already passing Schonbrunn and nearing our endpoint. He dropped us off at our hotel and bid our goodbyes.

The Vienna lake region was easily the highlight of my Vienna trip since I got to see breathtaking views I wouldn’t normally see. It was a good overview if ever I decide to spend more time there in the future.

White Alligator Tours is a respectable company that I would gladly recommend to family/friends visiting Vienna. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

More success to the company!
For future travelers, enjoy your trip!

My daughter and I signed up for a tour from Vienna to Hallstatt and was picked up promptly from our hotel at 6:45am, no waiting and so convenient to be picked up from and dropped off at our hotel. We had 2 other quick pickup stops for a total of 6 people in our small group tour.

It was soooo nice not to be in a giant bus with a bunch of people where there are always some who are loud and obnoxious (they talk too loud) or at least one or two people who are always late and making others wait for them or one all-knowing person who likes to interrupt the tour guide with their knowledge from "wikipedia" research...lol, you know what I mean and I'm sure you've encountered these types before!

Anyway, so our small group was perfect and our tour guide, Peter, was super knowledgeable and witty and genuinely likable. He made a few stops that made the trip more enjoyable and really interesting! Once we got to Hallstatt, Peter handed us to a local tour guide who took us through the village for an hour or so and gave us really good information and amazing photo opportunities. Then they give you a few hours of free time to do whatever you want to do! We spent our time eating lunch, we tried their local food like wiener schnitzel (yummy!) and this marshmallow roll (heaven!) and just walked around and took a bunch of pictures.

Peter showed up promptly at the agreed pick up time and we headed back to Vienna. He is such a good driver that everyone fell asleep in the van :) It was a long day for everyone but a lot of fun and well worth the price!

Highly recommended!!

We just returned from a trip to Vienna. I had heard about Cesky Krumlov and wanted to do a day trip there. The choice was to take a train which takes (I believe) about 4 1/2 hours since there is no direct line; drive, which would entail getting a rental car and driving about 2 1/2 hours, but we'd have no idea what we were seeing, or signing up for a day tour. I only found one tour from Vienna. It was with White Alligator and there were no prior reviews. Normally, I'd probably pass on that, but I looked up other tours by White Alligator and they were overwhelmingly positive so I figured we'd go with it.
The company is run by two brothers, Balazs and Peter, both of whom I talked to on the phone when arranging the tour. Both spoke excellent english which is obviously a huge plus in a tour guide.
Our guide was Balazs. It was just me, my wife and daughter. He picked us up in a van right on time at 7:00 at our hotel in Vienna. On the way there we stopped at a town called Weitra which had a castle and a really nice little town square. Then we drove up to Cesky Krumlov. Along the way, Balazs explained some of the history and answered a LOT of questions. He said that he was raised in Hungary and had been a freelance journalist for several years. I felt a bit sorry for him as I really love history. He was trying to tell us what we were seeing and I couldn't help but to keep asking him his opinions on current events around the world. I think it made him a bit uncomfortable at first because those subjects can be a little touchy, but living in Arizona, how often am I going to meet someone with his perspective on things? I really enjoyed hearing his views as well as what he had to say about the actual tour (that is when I wasn't constantly going off on a tangent).
When we got to Cesky Krumlov we were met by Vladimira who was their local tour guide that they arrange to take us around. She said that she lived nearby and she did an excellent job telling us about the history and buildings around the town. For the town itself, I don't really have words to describe it. Around every corner is another breathtaking photo opportunity. The best description I can give is that it looks like a set in a Disney movie. Vladimira also showed us some good places to eat and where to buy Moldavite jewelry. Moldavite is a semi-precious gem created by a meteor impact nearby millions of years ago. She also got us a %30 discount on a Moldavite ring that I bought my daughter. After about 2 1/2 hours with Vladimira, we got to walk around the town on our own for about 2 hours. Nothing on the tour was rushed and it ended up being a perfect amount of time for a day trip. Although I could have stayed there for several days. There were several 4 and 5 star hotels. We met back up with Balazs and got back to Vienna at about 7:30 pm.
Overall, I can't recommend this tour highly enough. If you only do one day trip from Vienna this should be it.

Very bad experience with White Alligator tour- watch out for this your company. I don’t usually write negative reviews (you can see all my glowing feedback from different parts of the world) but I want to let people know about this one. I picked the tour with care based on past TripAdvisor reviews. A day before the private tour (meaning 4 - 6 people, and my mom and I were two of those) I received an e-mail that pickup will be 6:45 am to 7:15 am and they’ll let me know specifically when the next day. I emailed Kevin back asking if 7:15 am would be ok so that before the 12+ hour tour I could grab a little breakfast at the hotel which starts at 7 am. I got an email back from Kevin saying that they will pick me at 6:45 am. Given how small the tour is, I found that strange. It was our first night in a new hotel and there was construction at the window all night long. We literally did not sleep a wink. In the morning I started calling and emailing White Alligator asking if it would be possible to do the tour on a different (we are around all week) or even just a different tour. The answer to everything was just NO. When I called, the owner of the company said he’s not at his desk right now and can’t check how full the tours are - but then he just said ‘’no, we’re charging you the full amount and you can’t even switch’’ without even looking! This company just wants your money. They don’t care about the person taking the tour or the quality of your experience with White Alligator. Hope you find a better option than I found, because I ended up paying a lot of money, not going on any kind of tour, and didn’t sense any effort on the part of the company.

Dear ElisabettaViaggiare! We also thank you, just like your partner K7645H (the review below yours), for taking the time to put your experience with White Alligator Tours into words. Nevertheless, we have to start with the following: your review includes many false and misleading information as well as accusations that are unjust and untrue. First of all, you did book the Small-Group Day Trip from Vienna to Salzburg and not a private day trip. (Your partner K7645H stated below this review the value of your booking of EUR 250. For that amount of money you cannot get a private trip.) In case of small-group tours we do pick-ups from different parts of Vienna and try to do this, in order to guarantee our Clients the unique experience we offer them, within the time frame from 6.45am-7.15am. We are completely aware of certain hotels offering breakfast option only from 7.00am, but simply for this reason we cannot depart half an hour later (in case of a private tour this is different). On the other hand, we did inform you about the washroom break with breakfast option on our way to Salzburg (email on file). Luckier guests can also get a breakfast bag in most of the hotels. Please note that we don’t really know what happened that night in your hotel. We contacted the management of your hotel (initials: H.B.) in order to confirm the construction work “at the window all night long”, however this was not confirmed by them. No surprise, as you would have traveled on 11 June, a day after Whit Monday. Your hotel is located in a very quiet street of Vienna’s old down and it was the night after a religious holiday. If someone is familiar with Vienna, knows very well that chances of construction works on holidays are minimal…construction works at night in the old town are, so we would say, pretty much impossible. Truly we did receive an email from you 15 (!) minutes before your departure time at 6.45am stating that you were “exhausted” and had not slept “all night”. While our driver Hans was already in your hotel to pick-you up, you wanted to re-schedule your travel date. As per earlier reviews, our company is pretty flexible in changing travel dates in order to accommodate our Clients, but we could only offer you a Salzburg tour on 22 June (with no other option available). This offer was rejected by you. Please note that if you try to cancel or amend a tour with the driver already being in your hotel waiting for your pick-up, most probably in 100% of the cases you will not be entitled to get a refund. On the other hand, you had accepted our company’s Terms of Service, otherwise a booking would not have been possible, that clearly state the rules. Even if you tried to cancel or amend a Trip Advisor booking within 24 hours of departure time, you simply would not be able to do it. Before finishing your review, you state the following: “This company just wants your money. They don’t care about the person taking the tour or the quality of your experience with White Alligator.” Let me point out one thing here. The day you did the booking with us on 21 April 2019, accidentally you had booked one more person for the tour. The amount of money you had paid for the extra person, was refunded to your account within minutes. Your reply stated back then: “You are so kind!” (Email on file). At the end of the day we strongly doubt your willingness to take the Salzburg tour on 11 June 2019. The reasons are the following: 1. In an email sent us at 2.38pm on the day before the tour you wrote you “can’t leave for the tour” in case of no breakfast (on file). 2. In an email sent us at 3.00am (!) on your travel date you marked Peter “as the reason” you had booked the tour and therefore wanting to switch the driver and travel date (on file). 3. At 6.30am (15 minutes before departure time) you sent us an email stating you had a “terribly loud hotel room” (on file). All these emails seemed to us to be some kind of last minute excuse to not take the tour on the original travel date, which still would not have been a problem, if you had tried to amend your booking earlier and not 15 minutes before departure time with your driver ready to pick you up in your hotel lobby. Similar to our reaction to your partner’s review below, we clearly reject you characterizing us as “bad people”. We truly believe the reviews by other Clients pretty much confirm our point of view. Best regards, Balazs Csekö Owner White Alligator Tours

Peter made our day trip to Budapest so great. He had so much knowledge about Austria and Budapest - we learned so much and he took us to so many great places. The van was very comfortable - loved the lounging seats and lots of leg room. Peter drove very well - nice and smooth (important if you get car sick)! He showed us lots of beautiful things while traveling in the van and gave us an opportunity to stop and look around key spots on both the Buda and the Pest sides. Great amount of free time to grab a yummy Hungarian lunch, do some additional sight seeing and a little shopping. We would definitely recommend Peter and Alligator tours.

Peter picked us up on time and we were off.3 in our group.2 already on board Interesting Commentary all the way and stops anytime if needed.
Firstly a few stops along the Lake District....beautiful and then on into Salzburg where a local guide has to take you for a hour walk around the key points Dale was very knowledgeable
Mozart and the sound of music !!
Then a couple of hours free time to roam on your own and have lunch before meeting back up and heading back a Different way so more chat and commentary.
All in all a very good day
And highly recommended this trip

The day trip was wonderful, we had a great guide who explained lots about Vienna and Austria from several different levels. The scenery and easy stops made the day fun and fulfilling. I had not been in the countryside in many ears, and I found it profoundly beautiful, as it is. The town is stunning, and the guide extremely knowledgeable. Take cash, as we found cards were difficult to use there. and TAKE the trip!!! it's worth every penny!!

Initially, I planned to visit Vienna but in the meantime thought it was a good idea to travel to nearby villages. I decided to book a tour with this company as I thought it was affordable and their website, along with the plan of the tour seemed inviting. Our tour guide, Peter, picked us up at the hotel. When we were heading out of Vienna, he gave us information about some sights as he drove through and it was very interesting. Before reaching Hallstatt, we passed through the Lake District and St. Gilgen. Again, Peter was very knowledgeable about these areas and even added humour, which kept us listening to him. Finally, when we arrived in Hallstatt, we were guided by Lucia, who showed us around the important sites of Hallstatt. Would recommend this tour to anyone who would like to visit.
