We attended the event this year with my wife for the first time. It was a unique experience with amazing music, well-designed tables and high quality of food. I highly recommend this to all couples for having unforgettable memories together. You will find all age groups there. Practically, we enjoyed more in the gallery, since we had a view from above and could go whenever we wanted down to the ball room. Our recommendation for the organisers is that next time they can pay more attention to the quantity of food and less in the flower decoration, which was really extravagant!

I have four suggestions for the "Gala" ball, depending on how desperately you want to go.
1) If you want dinner then go for the Festhaal, it is the most expensive but you're where the action is.
2) If you don't want dinner, but you want a place to sit, book the Festhaal for the 21:15 start it is still where the action is.
3) If you have to go and you don't care about seating, there is a 21:15 ticket that gets you in, but there is no guaranteed seating however all the bars have seats.
4) Don't bother.
If you do decide to go take plenty of cash as they don't take any plastic.
Just my £.02 worth.

Dear Patrick W,
I am affraid you have mistaken us for the Silvesterball in Hofburg. Our Silvestergala is in another location, Vienna City Hall and dinner and drinks are included throughout the night for our guests. There is absolutely no extra payment and guests do not need any money at the premises, except maybe for taxi later.
We also do not have the same ticketing method.
Please be so kind as to remove the comment since doesn't refer to our event and venue and it gives our potential guests the wrong impression.

After my initial troubles with the booking, which were eventually properly resolved, I'm glad to say the actual occasion delivered a very special and enjoyable evening. The venue is simply stunning and the musical entertainment fitting for such a place, creating a beautiful atmosphere. The dinner was surprisingly high quality for a large event and there was no shortage of decent wine included (in fact we drank a bit too much!).
My only (very slight) negative is that the food service ran a fair bit behind schedule, so that the last course or two converged with the main show and dancing. As many of the diners broke off to enjoy the entertainment, the food service got a bit forgotten by the staff and came a bit late to be properly appreciated. Nevertheless, this is only a small point and did not spoil our evening at all.
We were seated in the balcony, which I would recommend as a great vantage point with the added bonus of being more private (we got our own table) and less expensive than the main hall. It does feel a little bit detached from the main throng, however this suited us as avid people watchers and you are free to go downstairs to join in the dancing anytime if you wish. We, along with some other couples, enjoyed dancing up on the balcony where there is ample space to enjoy.
Overall then, a wonderful experience if you want to dress up and feel like a VIP for a special occasion. Not cheap, but worth the money for a treat.

Booked direct on their website a week ago, tickets all paid. No confirmation received. Chased twice by email, no response. Not impressed and more than a bit concerned. I'm sure the event will be good, if I ever manage to get the tickets I've paid for.

I am from VIenna, and even for me this event has a magical atmosphere! In my opinion it's the best way how to celebrate the new year. They have fantastic shows, delicious dinner and unique, classy atmosphere! For midnight you can enjoy the firework comfortably from the balcony, while 1000 of people are crowded in front of the city hall! You feel like a princess!

We went for New Year without the 6/7 course dinner but we enjoyed having food from the Christmas Market in the square outside the Rathaus prior to entering. The night as a whole was very entertaining. One small criticism, the dance floor is very small considering the amount of people at the event. Therefore it's difficult to join in and dance. Would definitely recommend!

we are a family of 5 (2 adults and 3 children aged 16,15 and 8 years old) and we will be in Vienna during the New Year. We are interested in attending the Silvester Gala in City Hall and we would like you to help us clarify some questions, please. Are children allowed?
We would prefer to have a table just to our family and not a shared one and for the reviews i`ve been reading,this would only be possible If we opt for the Category Gallery.My question is : is there enough space in the Gallery for a table of 5? Has anyone attended?

Hi all,
I am interested in going to the gala, but I am also interested in the fireworks. Would it be possible to venture outside of the city hall before the fireworks to view the fireworks from the outside? (i.e. can we get in and out of the city hall during the event?)
If not, what is the view from the balcony like? Which way is it facing, and is there any architecture (e.g. the burtheatre?) when viewing the fireworks?
