Worst travel of my life (ghost travel)
Worst trip of my life! 3 days in Berlin taking the Nightjet A/R…so happy! To go, I arrive at the station and I see on the train board that my Nightjet is canceled. No email, phone call unlike the other passengers who had received one the same morning. The controller there tells me: take the 7:06 p.m. for Frankfurt and you change in Mannheim. Result: I pay for an ICE to Manhein and there I have to wait until 2:30 a.m. for a train that will take me to Berlin. Return: Nightjet canceled the same morning by looking at their site (still no text or email). Here I am in a Flixbus for 80 euros more and a 14-hour journey. With the fatigue, this 3 day trip is the most horrible I have ever done. And of course no compensation. In short: run away! Ps/ ÖBB Austrian service is ultimately not so rigorous (Germanic rigor!), and we pinch ourselves by regretting the SNCF (I swear, they are 100 times better)

    Well unfortunately not as expected
HH - Zurich there and back on the nightjet. Once in a 6-person comfort compartment in a couchette for 2 people and once in a sleeping car in a 2-person cabin. Dirty toilets. Incredible noise, partly because the carriages are unfortunately probably around 40 years old, contrary to the pictures. Absolute disappointment. Unfortunately, this will not get more people onto the rails in the long term. Prices are also very high and the quality leaves a lot to be desired.

    Absolutely unreliable!
Absolutely unreliable. Arrives late every other time and sometimes not at all. 3 hour delays are not uncommon. You are not even offered free snacks or drinks and often there is no onboard bistro or snack machine. There are also no announcements to inform passengers why they are standing in the same place for 2 hours. Westebahn is better in 95% of cases. ÖBB and DB are simply forgettable.

    It was fine but…
Train taken several times therefore aware of the small size of the compartment... this time it was larger because I took the one with private toilet but apart from the smell of urine and the poor cleanliness I must underline that the heating blows cold air and you have to plug it with something... it is comfortable but expensive for the Service offered! Now, among other things, I discover that they have literally doubled the prices and for a compartment that I had already paid more than €300 they are now asking for more than €500 and if you leave from Spezia Genoa Milan Verona the price remains the same which it's incredible!

A small travel impression in the ÖBB Nightjet
A small travel impression in the ÖBB Nightjet In February 2024 we had planned a trip to Vienna. Impressed by the great advertising images of the ÖBB, we decided to take the trip with the Nightjet from Mainz to Vienna. Get on the train at night, receive a welcome package with slippers, toiletries, etc., tick your wishes for the à la carte breakfast with hot drinks the next morning and lie down in the freshly made bed - of course after getting ready for the night in your own bathroom. Rested and with a great breakfast, you happily reach your destination. So much for the ÖBB advertising. The reality on February 14, 2024 at 12:30 a.m. looked like this: Delay of almost half an hour in Mainz. Then the shock. The Nightjet had no sleeping cars at all. There was only one couchette car in which our children had to share a compartment with other people. My wife and I only had one seat compartment for the 10-hour journey. The carriage was from at least the 80s and the whole train was extremely dirty on the outside. Of course there was no welcome package and for breakfast there were only two rolls with jam and coffee from a paper cup. The only bright spot was the friendly staff. The conductor and attendants were very committed and tried to make this hell on wheels somewhat bearable. In retrospect, you can only ask yourself how anyone came up with the idea of choosing a 10-hour train journey over a 1-hour flight. You can certainly imagine getting off in Vienna after a night like that. We will certainly not make this mistake again.

    Promises a lot, delivers nothing
Shockingly bad experience with nightjet from amsterdam to zurich and back. On both occasions the car we booked simply was not there. It was a sleeper car, I was traveling with young children. Nobody seemed to care very much. Ended up with lots of extra expenses due to having to book hotels last minute, find alternative transport. Customer service equally unhelpful. Ironically there is an automated tape when you phone them, stating that they will not pay for costs made for alternative transport or hotels in case of a 'downgrade' while traveling with a nightjet. So that's what they're calling it these days... And I guess it proves this happens all the time. Have asked for refund, maybe that is the only thing they will prove to do correctly (fingers crossed). Do not recommend (to say the least)!! It is a shame that this is the only nighttrain provider in this part of Europe, they are obviously not trying to make the most out of it. Hopefully some more competent providers will come soon...

OBB night train canceled at the last minute
Motivated by the idea of making a Paris-Berlin round trip without taking a plane, we booked a berth on the OBB night train. Result: train canceled the day before leaving due to a drivers' strike in Berlin (so, go by plane...). Train canceled on the return trip due to ice half an hour before while all the other trains were running (as a result, a very difficult return trip with 4 hours of waiting in the cold in the middle of the night in Franckfurt station). We are still fighting to get the tickets refunded (OK for the outward journey but not yet for the return). DB (German trains) and SNCF did their best to help us find a solution. OBB to absent subscribers.

Not everything you expect, but pretty good
The balance between marketing and what you expect versus what you ultimately get is skewed. The start of our trip was anything but optimal. The toilet turned out not to work and it was only much later that the information came that there was simply no water at all in our part of the train. Communication regarding not having water was poor. This was not communicated centrally and you therefore had to look for information yourself and therefore also a working toilet. In addition, a school class had been incorrectly booked. So there was a lot of chaos with looking for places to sleep combined with a lot of puberty and unavailable toilets. The whole thing made it quite difficult to just fall asleep. The solution was earplugs and little to drink. The above was initially enough for us to give the nightjet a bad review. BUT we flew back with KLM for about the same price as the nightjet. After our train adventure we thought we had done well by plane. Nothing turned out to be further from the truth. We had a "random" passport control based on a non-Western surname, which meant that we had to be at the airport much earlier. Then that moment was used to require us to check in our carry-on backpacks. We received a dry sandwich during the flight (quite a contrast to the good breakfast on the night jet) and of course we ended up waiting for our bags for a while. Long story short; the train is not a perfect experience as you see in films and in Nightjet's marketing. But it is really great for the convenience it offers with luggage and your own bed at night. The chance that we will travel by nightjet again is greater than we thought after our first experience. but in terms of checks and less hassle with bags and the possibility of having your own compartment for the same costs as a plane ticket is actually quite nice.

    Worst night of my life
The worst train service on the planet. Trains are 40-50 years old, tickets are 200 to 300 euro, nothing is working inside, heating on max, power sockets not working. No WI-FI! Dirty, alot of hair on the bed, sheets were not cleaned. This was worth perhaps 20e, or a total refund!

    Nightjet from Paris to Halle
Actually minus 100. Never again Nightjet!!!!! Instead of the booked 2-person sleeping compartment with shower, toilet and breakfast, we got a compartment with a seat. Sitting for 12 hours for 659.80 euros!!!!! The conductor in our carriage was very unfriendly. We only got a pillow in the other carriage after asking. Never again ÖBB!!!!!!!!!! We have never experienced such bad service. Toilets stink and some are broken.

Night train from Paris to Berlin is cancelled, the notification only came the same morning by email.
Although the train would not have left until 7pm, it was only possible to book an alternative retreat on the same day, not the following day.
I called the ÖBB three times in total, where I was assured several times that I could just get on any ICE to Berlin that leaves from Paris. Three different employees confirmed this to me when asked explicitly. Now when I showed my ticket in Paris, I was not allowed on the train as it was not valid. When I called ÖBB for the FOURTH time, the employee told me in a tone of self-evidentness that my ticket could not be "because you are in France and only tickets of the French railway company are valid there". So at the last moment I had to buy a ticket for 250€ for two trains back to Berlin.
After that, when I tried to get my tickets refunded accordingly, this process took numerous emails, phone calls and a total of over a month. Every employee I reached by phone or e-mail had to explain the situation from the front because no one knew about the process. The first refund was incorrectly paid as a voucher, whereby I had selected EXTRA when refunding to receive the contribution as a monetary contribution. Regularly, as before, I received contradictory information.

Overall, therefore, extremely unreliable, negligent and irresponsible customer service, poor handling of customers. I would advise anyone not to ride with the ÖBB.

Nightjet NJ233 directed the spice vienna to the outgoing suppressed, recovered with bunk on nj that leaves Rome with 2 changes to Milan and Padua, to the return delay of 150 minutes and accommodated in 70s bunk cars only breakfast in both cases.600 and ticket A / R in 2 ... the bunk cars with bathroom and dinner reserved that we have seen advertised online and purchased do not exist on the NJ233 .. a scandal .... we paid for something non-existent.... online assistance service non-existent ... thank goodness that trenitalia customer support has it .. in the flesh ... they waited for us both in Milan and Padua giving us directions and waiting for us on the train ... w l Italy!

Highly discouraged OBB bad service

I've been traveling on the öbb night jet for years (Venice-Vienna route), and it's always an ordeal... especially if you're forced to take the cheapest ticket (€50 anyway), you find yourself crammed into a cabin with 5 other people where living space is NON-EXISTENT! So if you are anxious or suffer from claustrophobia I strongly advise against it. The seats are old and covered in fabric, which you can't tell when was the last time it was washed. There is no wifi, which makes the trip even more unbearable. The bathrooms are always busy because there are few of them.
Then it stops for several hours at various stations along the way, which leads to having to face a 12 hour journey rather than 8/9... I'm sorry but I find that öbb is the apotheosis of obscenity when it comes to travel international. If you are planning a trip to Vienna and have the possibility to travel light, I highly recommend you opt for the plane (sometimes it is even much cheaper).

Go "Paris Berlin": arrival at 12:40 p.m. instead of the 8:36 a.m. initially planned... being in the seated compartment we were not offered a snack, just a mini bottle of water. The journey lasted 18 hours and seemed endless. No paper in the toilets.

Nightmarish return to "Berlin Paris": 2h30 before the train's scheduled departure time, we receive an email informing us that the train is canceled. So we scramble to book plane tickets for the same evening. 1 hour later, we received a new email from obb still indicating “train canceled” in red, but a little further on in the body of the email “do not take this information into account, the train is running correctly at the scheduled time”.
So we go to the Hbf station to see for ourselves. After some difficulty obtaining information at the station, we understand that the train will be there. It is displayed on time. 2 minutes before the scheduled station entry time, it disappears from the display screens. No information, no audio announcement. 30 minutes after the initially scheduled departure time, he arrived on the platform without being warned. So it’s a race to find the right car.
On the way back we had a private sleeping compartment for two: nothing very transcendent, very old train and not very comfortable.
Once the bed has been installed by the obb agent: a very live bedbug sits on the fitted sheet of one of the duvets...
We didn't sleep a wink: in addition to the fear of bedbugs, the window kept opening and closing suddenly as the train moved.
When we think that it's over and that we will finally be able to go home soon: at 5:30 a.m. we are told that we have to change trains at Mannheim station, because our train will not go to Paris. Gone was the breakfast initially planned...
Connection at 6:40 a.m. to take an ICE train which will arrive in Paris at 9:50 a.m.… fortunately we found seats, because of course we were grafted onto this train unexpectedly...

We paid more than €900 for this round trip for two people. Not to mention the €60 cancellation fee for hastily booked plane tickets following an incorrect cancellation email... I'm still waiting for a response from OBB to our compensation request email... never again!

On the nightjet from Vienna to Milan 14 hours of travel during the night from 7pm to 9am. Private compartment reservation for exclusive use, 6 seats which become 3 beds booked for 3 people exclusively (an adult, a 4 year old child and a 5 year old disabled child). Saying that there is no room on the full train, they put us in a carriage with no compartments, only seats. When I asked the sleeper for explanations she told me if we don't like it we can get off at the next stop and we can go and make a complaint at the ticket office. I told her I don't need the complaint I need a bed for my children. The answer isn't there. He offered a refund to a German-speaking traveler. I asked to speak to the train conductor who said it was her, but after arriving the real train conductor also told me if you want, get off and go and complain at the ticket office at the station. After I insisted he wrote a sentence on my ticket saying downgrade in an open carriage. Private compartment not available. Nothing else. And by paying more than the 3-seater sleeper carriage to be able to be alone with my children and to be able to lock themselves in an exclusive and private compartment for safety, I found myself in a seat-only carriage with 20 other travellers. On the request to provide at least 1 bed for my disabled son and 1 for me and my little son and state the train is full if you want you can sit here or get off and go to complain at the ticket office. Poor service, rude staff.

The night train 223 (on July 24th) from Vienna to PAVIA arrived in Verona over 6 hours late and then stopped and did not continue. The passengers then had to continue on to Pavia (in my case) La Spezia. That means one train, then almost three subway lines in Milan and then another train (that was the "fastest" option. On the return journey on August 1st I had to travel in a seated car instead of a sleeping car because of an error in the ÖBB Scotty app system (they put me and my daughter in the women's section) and had to leave my little daughter there alone (in the sleeping car) despite many protests with the conductor.... A month ago I had already asked about this problem in the women's section at the ÖBB office in Meidling and they told me: "Ask the conductor directly, it won't be a problem" No any further comment

With a group of students running to the airport, we were told at the central station by security that they could get on the train to the airport by paying for the ticket on board. Once we got on, the controller arrived and denied being able to buy the ticket on board and fined us all, without hearing any reason or understanding the situation and the difficulties with all the boys. Horrific experience with the security guards laughing as they fined us. Never seen such a thing!!

I’m on the Nightjet as I write this review at 6.26am having just been woken again by the lights all suddenly coming on. We took the Brussels-Vienna train a few days ago with a whole couchette cabin for the 3 of us, which I thought was the lowlight as the couchettes are really uncomfortable and the pillows are tiny and inadequate. How wrong I was.

Our return was a sleeper cabin, allegedly the best option.

Pros: The little pack of stuff and the bottles of Prosecco were nice and the sleeper beds are definitely more comfortable. The guy in charge of our carriage on the way out was nice.

Cons: the noise. I expected train noise so I’ve discounted that. All night there was random really loud buzzing on and off which woke me every 10-20 minutes. At 5am it sounded like the beds in a nearby cabin were being put away incredibly loudly. At 6am the lights all came back on and there was no way to turn them back off for 10 minutes when they went off as abruptly as they went on. Sleep was at best intermittent and when choosing and paying for a sleeper I’d expect better than this.

Honestly miserable, worst European train experience my group had

To start, our reservation was for seats that didn't exist, so we were forced to move to economy

Whenever the train stopped they turned off the AC so the cabins got very uncomfortably hot

No wifi, no water, floor was so sticky it literally pulled my shoes off more than once. Staff did little to help organize any of the chaos because we werent the only ones with the issue. No chargers or adapter ports anywhere on the train, bathrooms were half dirty half not working

At stops they would finally dim the lights and then the moment the train started all the cabins went back to having all their lights on, staff says they "don't turn the lights off" not a damn clue why when the train advertising claims everywhere that they try and make the experience so you can sleep.

Nobody telling people not to listen to videos are full volume in the middle of the night, genuinely cannot believe how poor it was compared to every other ride my group had

Overwhelmingly a terrible experience, don't recommend unless you shell out the money for abed our couchette but even then you aren't guaranteed to have a spot

On the eve of booking a train from Vienna Central Station to Salzburg Central Station, a ticket inspector asked for a ticket and showed a receipt of the mail, but he was fined almost twice as much as the ticket fee due to the delay in downloading.
It was hard to download and show the Qualcode ticket, but the detection man ignored and caught up in a miserable situation: I sent an email to obb about this appropriate situation and I don't know how to come out. Due to this, the image of Austria is not good and has continued to be mentally stressed since that day,
