A great view on the palace and little lake in front. A very impressive building more or less in the middle of schonbrunn gardens
You can not miss it and take your time to enjoy the view and area. Due to covid the cafe was closed but even from outside it is still great.

Amazing view
Mar 2020 • Couples
Wonderful view of the palace and city. Worth the steep walk. Chocolate cake was a bit dry - stick to the strudel. Beer was only in bottles. Coffee was good as was the service. If you can get a table by the windows on a clear day you will marvel at the scene.

Coffee with millions views
Oct 2019
The best location to have a Viennese coffee with its traditional desserts 🧁 the coffee house is always busy but it is worst to wait for the seat. Once you reach the top of Schönbrunn Palace, it is a Must to be there!

Wonderful
Feb 2020 • Couples
A wonderful café on top of the hill above Schönbrunn. They have a huge variety of cakes, coffee and hot chocolate, with or without liqueur. It looked like they had some soups and salads too.

Beautiful architectural feature with a commanding view of the palace
Jun 2019
Take time to walk the grounds of the palace and visit this amazing feature at the top of hill behind the palace. Our guide brought us in the back entrance to the grounds so entered by the Gloriette and walked down. The views from the Gloriette are simply amazing, even on a rainy day as when we visited.

As for the building itself, it is just as impressive for the most part it is an architectural park piece. It also doubles as a cafe. We did not visit the cafe but we greatly enjoyed the visit to the Gloriette for the the view. For that reason alone, it is worth the visit.

The Gloriette the crowning Glory.
Oct 2019
To view this Colonnaded Monument from the distance of the back ofSchonbrunn Palace is wonderful but by the time you slowly climb the steep incline to the elevated hill position it is situated on, the sight is even more magnificent and the views obtained from both sides are stunning, both over looking the back of the Palace and gardens and to the fore the Panoramic views of Vienna City and beyond. This Colonnaded building flanked by wings, arches and topped with Imperial Eagles is so impressive.
The Gloriette was built in 1775 created byEmpress Maria Teresa as a symbol of Hamburg Power. The plans were that of the Austrian Imperial Architect Johann Ferdinand Hetzendorf Von Hohenberg. The Monument being built as a " Temple of Renown " to use both as a focal point and a lookout point. The Gloriette's decorative sculptures are by the famous Salzburg sculpture Johann Baptist Von Hagenauer.
The Inner Hall was originally used as a dining room and the Festival room as a breakfast room. On the upper floor is an observation platform which gives you the opportunity to obtain spectular views and photograhs of Vienne City and beyond and looking backwards to the gardens and back view of Schonbrunn Palace
The Inner Hall now functions as the Cafe Gloriette. It provides food, drinks, pastries and has the Sisi buffet which provides a good selection of items especially for children up to 12yrs old for 7 Euros. The Cafe offers a breakfast (as in Imperial times). Live classical music from a quartet occasionally, (check the times). Service can be a little slow, so be patient.
Prior to winding your way up the hillside stop and take a look at the exotic fountains with the elevated majestic statues situated prior to your ascent. Enjoy this wonderful part of the Schonbrunn Palace.
Please check as there was a notification posted the Cafe would be closed for a period mid January 2020 for restoration. Would highly recommend this trip.

Not equipped for large crowds
Dec 2019
The walk up to the Cafe are quite beautiful. You get an great view of the city spread out below you. The architecture of the building is amazing. Only complaint is how long it takes to get a table and to be served. They are unable to handle large crowds, which unfortunately puts me to only give them 3 stars

Not as expensive as you would think
Oct 2019
We walked up to this thinking it would be too pricey for us but actually it was reasonable. We had a Mozart Torte and Sisi Torte and seriously good Viennese coffee in wonderful surroundings.
