We visited Vienna a couple weeks ago and took the Free Walking Tour. The tour, which lasted about 1,5 hours, was very informative and summed up all the important aspects of the city’s history without tiring us. We found out things about the city we wouldn’t have learned otherwise, not even in the several museums we visited. We were especially surprised by our guide, Anita, who managed to create a pleasant atmosphere among the visitors. She was very well informed and you could tell that she genuinely enjoys her job. She was always eager to help and answer all of our questions and we stayed several minutes after the tour was finished discussing with her -despite the cold weather. At the end of the tour she distributed a list with her suggestions on restaurants, bars and shops in Vienna which we found very tasteful and made our decision making easier for the rest of our trip.
All in all, I believe that the tour is worth every minute of it I would suggest it to everyone!

I was bored sitting in Prague and decided to head to Vienna the next morning. As a solo backpacker, first thing I searched was a free walking tour of the city of Vienna. Found Good Vienna tours and signed up for morning English session. My tour guide was Mr.Rainer (his colleagues fondly call him Ryan Air), was holding a green umbrella, whose English was smooth and at first he sounded British (turned out to be local). His wealth of knowledge is impressive and shoutout to him for providing me this superb experience of the old city of Vienna. Though this tour was long ago in 2019, I still have this note unchecked in my keep notes, I still remember the tour with this guy.

We took the 10am free walking tour with Wolfgang today, and he was an exceptional guide. Incredibly knowledgeable, witty and poignant. We saw and learned so much about Vienna, and really truly loved our experience. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone coming to Vienna to get a great history lesson and receive recommendations! Wolfgang is an absolutely excellent guide, thank you Wolfgang and Good Tours Vienna!!!

Well its my tenth (?) free tour around Europe and i Always leave tip but... At the very start of the trip Anita made very clear that this is not exactly a "free" tour, its more like a tip tour, fair tip as she mentioned with not the most friendly way, making us feel guilty or something. Taking this into consideration and the fact that the context was not so interesting for us we didn't stay for most of the tour.

Hello, We are really sorry to hear that you did no like our freetour in Vienna. As you might have heard, the freetour concept in Vienna works differently compared to other cities. In Vienna guides need a licence for which they go to school for for 2 years. So even our freetour guides are professionals, who live from their tours. The tip is a suggestion, but of course, as it says also on our website, you can leave a tip you find appropriate and according to your satisfaction with the tour. It is by no means a necessity, so we are sorry if the guide made you feel like you were obliged to give her the tip. I hope you still liked the city and maybe well see you another time to make up :) Kind regards,

The guide started the opening speech by telling the group she is expecting each of us to pay at the end of the tour as she needed to pay the tour operator for each headcount subscripted to the tour. She even go to the extend of expressing 20 euros per person. I am expected to give gratitude but never imagine the guide will be that direct of telling you how much to pay. A couple immediately walk out and a few sneak away upon hearing this.

It really created some distaste when you label your tour as free but straight away ask for money when it has not even started. Other than this little drama, everything else was fine.

Dear Guests, thank you very much for your review. We are glad that you liked the tour. You are absolutely right, the statement of our guide regarding the tip was unprofessional and incorrect. Of course, guides make a living from tipping, but no guest should feel obligated to tip, and certainly not in a certain amount. We are often asked how much tip is appropriate, then we give the cost of a "ordinary" walking tour as a comparative value. Anyway, we had a serious word with our guide and she will refrain from such statements in the future. Best regards, Julija

One of the best tours I have tried so far. Lisa, our guide, was very knowledgeable, pleasant and the history lessons were easy to follow, understand and the funny moments made the whole picture interesting.
The only “complaint” was about the 15 min break for a drink and/or food. Not necessary as not enough time for a proper meal, in reality the pause was a bit longer as within the big group is hard to synchronize everyone.
All in all, I recommend it!

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to write this review and for rating us with 5 stars. It’s great to hear that you liked your free walking tour with our guide Lisa. We welcome people of all ages and physical conditions and as the walk around the city is pretty long, we want to make sure that everybody is enjoying it. We take the break to give our guests the opportunity to use the washrooms, relax a bit, strech their legs and have a cup of coffee. We are still happy that you enjoyed on your walking tour and we hope that you will join us again! Kind regards,

We took the free walking tour with Rainer and although he was very nice, the tour focused more on where to find good food or what places to visit rather than giving an introduction to the history of such a great city. We were a big group and the tour got interesting only when he gave people the chance to ask questions. We got more information from the answer to the questions than the tour itself. All the other information given was very vague.

We did the free walking tour of Vienna with Michael Rosar! He was fabulous! Interesting, funny and even inspiring. We greatly appreciate the fact that he pointed out the importance of talking about some of the darker chapters in Vienna’s history (also experienced in many other European countries). Highly highly recommend Michael!!!

Only 12 out of the 15 people required to start the tour showed up so it was canceled with no warning. They did non proposed us an alternative, or the possibility to make the tour with 12 people and compensate them for the missing three. We went to a tour by another company an hour later and had a great time. Don't bother with this company in the off season

Dear Peter P, Thank you for taking the time to write this review. We are very sorry that you had a bad experience with our tour. If you take a look at our reviews, you will see that the vast majority of our guests is more than happy with our service and the few complaints that we get are mainly because the group was too big. The particularity in Vienna is that every guide here has to have a license, which he/she gets by attending a years long course, so you don’t find students guiding free tours in Vienna, like they do in most other cities. Therefore, sometimes the groups are quite big, as we cannot find enough guides, willing to work on a tip basis. And rarely, very rarely, groups are too small and the tour is cancelled. Please understand, that our guides are licensed professionals and they do this for a living and not to earn some pocket money. That’s why we have to have a minimum group size of 15 guests – which, by the way, is stated in the FAQ section on our website. We do not put it on the first page, as for 99% of our tours it is not a problem at all. We are sure that you will understand our circumstances. Have a great day and kind regards from Vienna,

Did the free walking tour with Michael. Was a little worried because the group was rather large, but Michael held it together with his charisma and also projection. The tour covered highlights like the WWII memorial, Albertina, Hofburg, Ring Road, St Stephen’s, with lots of info and stories on the Habsburgs and the city’s development, and also recommendations on museums to see and places to eat at (which we later tried, and can affirm are good recommendations!) All in all a great way to get introduced to the city so you can explore more on your own later on.
