Very fine opportunity to get to know this very famous town in Tirol for its skiing facilities. Very fine houses, cobblestine streets, fancy churches, cafés, restaurants and luxurious skiing facilities and clothes shops. A good way to spend time for those who will not ski.

Although many people imagine Kitzbühel as a luxurious and big ski resort, it is in fact a beautiful and small Alpine village with nice and especially colourful old town. It is one of the best examples of old Tyrol villages, also with many paintings on houses which remind a little on some nice Bavarian towns in the Berchtesgaden or Garmisch-Partenkirchen area. Because it is a little town, the town as a whole also seems very authentic. Cable-railway Hahnenkammbahn, which rides to the start of the famous Kitzbühel downhill, is only 5 minutes of walking from the Kitzbühel Old Town: therefore it is easy to visit both in one stop in the town and still having time to visit more sights nearby in the same day. So, if you are visiting Tyrol in Austria, make sure you don't forget to visit Kitzbühel, especially if you like authentic and historic Alpine villages. If you are also an alpine skiing fan, it should be on your travelling must-do list.

This free tour of the town, leaving the Tourist Information Office at 10 a.m. last Tuesday was a fantastic introduction to the history and sights of the historic town centre. Led by Hilde, an English speaking guide, her enthusiastic and knowledgable commentary brought to light things you might otherwise walk past. The tour lasted over two hours and was much enjoyed.

Totally overrated! Cute village with 2 shopping streets which are lined with lovely old renovated houses. Pittoresk but nothing more. A few global luxurious chains, a few cafe places that's it. Nothing local, nothing creative. Surroundings are average small mountains, nothing compared to the dramatic Tauern region or the Dolomites. Why this place became so famous I have no clue.

We did not find this place worth a visit: posh, unfriendly and expensive.
I believe some of the natural sites are worth the visit but not the city center unless you miss Louis Vuitton and co:-)

Kitzbühel town centre (Innenstradt) is a compact area with some lovely buildings, churches, monuments and lots of cafes for just relaxing and chilling – you can easily spend a few hours here. Most of the area is at least partially pedestrianised but for some reason traffic still comes through the Rathaus and along what looks like traffic free areas to you need to be aware of this. After a visit to the Town Centre I would recommend (if you have several hours free) taking the Hahnenkammbahn (five minutes’ walk from the town center) up the Hahnenkamm – from the top there are many fantastic walks as well as seeing the start of the famous downhill ski course. If less time, then the 20 minute walk up the Schwarzsee is worth doing.

For excellent homemade ice-creams I would head to Café Beluna (close to the Rathaus); for coffee and snacks head to Pano café (short distance from Café Beluna).

Visiting Kitzbühel during its off season it is no surprise that you will find building work, roadworks etc happening, but unlike the previous reviewer this in no way spoiled by visit.

One summer Tuesday evenings (in fine weather) there is a free band concert in the town centre (impossible to miss) and well worth hearing. If you want a seat in any of the neighbouring cafes (Centro is best option), then arrange to arrive before the concert starts. During the concert a couple of young ladies wander around with a barrel of Schnapps - €1 a shot and well worth the money.

I have now spend ten nights in Kitzbühel and can’t wait to return.

The city of Kitzbuehel has made sure that this is pedestrian only zone and t a pleasure to stroll here only to be disturbed from time to time by a horse and carriage.

There was a lot of advertisement all over the village promoting Kitzbuhel as the best ski resort. I am afraid I found people rude, not caring how they ski in the mountains and also their ski schools unreasonable uncaring. Not a place for me I am afraid

Kitzbühel has everything - a cool party scene, high society events, international ski events, great festive season night markets, and a great cafe/dining culture, yet when it goes back to sleep in the off-peak times it reverts back to a lovely sleepy little alpine town with a rich history. We have been coming here for over 20 years, and still enjoy every moment of it.
