- DeGustibus67Turin, Italy16,835 contributionsOne of the symbols of the cityThe civic tower, which is one of the city's symbols and stands at the end of Herzog-Friedrich-Straße (the main street of the historic center), has a Gothic appearance and is 51 meters high. In past centuries the guardian of the tower had the task of striking the hours and, if necessary, warning the population in time in case of fires/dangers. In the past it housed the town hall, while today it can be visited and, after climbing 148 steps, you reach a height of about 30 meters from which you can appreciate a beautiful view of the city. N.B.: entrance is paid but free with the Innsbruck Card (€63/48 hours; €73/72 hours).Visited December 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten April 22, 2024
- dragoon17cDublin, Ireland506 contributionsfixed time chimeThe town clock tower is located in the old town of Innsbruck. Every once in a while, the bell will ring to tell the time, and you can hear the bell even if you are far away. The buildings in Innsbruck are generally not high, so it is easy to find the location of the bell tower. This is the main check-in place in Innsbruck and one of the places where tourists must take pictures.Visited March 2024Traveled soloWritten April 27, 2024
- Richard_HeapsBroadstairs, United Kingdom151 contributionsGreat little activityLow cost activity, great views at the top after going up the long spiral staircase. Definitely worth doing if you visit Innsbruck. They limit numbers at any one time as there is not a lot of space, so you may need to wait a few minutes.Visited August 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 21, 2024
- Tunes79Barrow-in-Furness, United Kingdom568 contributionsThe Best Views in TownIt’s right in the heart of Innsbruck’s Altstadt, it’s cheap to do (€5), and it’s only about 160 steps to the top - why wouldn’t you do it?! This short climb - open until 8pm so you can do it during the day or in the evening - provides wonderful vistas of the city and the Alps beyond. I spent a good 30 minutes wandering around and admiring the views - and there were only a few others up there at the same time, so you don’t feel crowded. It takes no more than five minutes to climb to the top and there are two staircases so you aren’t crowded by people coming the other way. Reaching the top should be achievable for anyone and is well worth it.Visited August 2024Traveled soloWritten August 26, 2024
- Mark N132 contributionsCity Tower InnsbruckThe 133 step spiral staircase you must take to reach the top of the tower will challenge some, but it is worth the walk. At least you'll know that going down is easy and there is a separate spiral staircase down so you don't have to battle the climbers on their way up. It's all about the view and that's what you get. Not a lot of room to move when you are up there but beautiful views of Innsbruck once you get there.Visited December 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten December 11, 2024

The tower opens onto the important square which also overlooks the renowned golden roof, and allows you to enjoy a 360° view of the city and the surrounding mountain panorama. Entrance is paid but modest, and also guarantees free access to the toilets (otherwise paid) which in any case, unlike what happens in Italy, are easy to find and often free.
The climb to the terrace is quite tiring (obviously to a different extent based on individual physical fitness), but the staircase is easy and not oppressive.

31 meters high reachable with 133 steps and rewarded by the view over the roofs of Innsbruck and the surrounding panorama.
The Stadtturm dates back to 1450 and was the tallest building in the city. For this reason, the guards used it to check for the possible arrival of enemies or to warn citizens of any fires that broke out in the city.

This was a part of the attractions included in The Innsbruck Card, but we would do it anyways because I love climbing towers - you are always rewarded with the most beautiful views. And the views from this historical tower just swept me off my feet! You can see the city and the Nordkette Mountain Range from the viewing deck. Climb 148 steps and have the most amazing photos of Innsbruck!!!

Personally, when I travel to a city and there's a tower, I usually try to climb it. I tried climbing this tower, but to be honest, it wasn't that impressive. That's because I had already climbed the mountains of Nordkette, so the view from here felt smaller than it actually was. If I had visited here first, I might have had a different impression.

My husband loves a view of a city and the higher the better, the tower didn’t disappoint. The views are absolutely amazing, you can walk right round. The steps up we both needed definitely worth going for a visit.

One of must-do's and must-see's when in this city. You can admire a wonderful view over the city centre and mountains. Completely recommended !!
I am not sure if there's an elevator. You have to go up and down the stairs, what can take maybe 5 minutes (if you are fit enough). :)

The Gothic Civic Tower, right on the right side of the Golden Roof, in the same square, was built in 1450. It is about fifty meters high and perhaps in its time it was considered high, but today, with all the modern buildings that surround it do not seem so imposing. To climb it, you have to do 148 steps of a modern steel spiral staircase (designed like a double helix by DNA, so that those who descend do not clash with those who climb). At the top there is a narrow wooden walkway from which you can have a 360 ° view over the roofs of Innsbruck and the surrounding mountains. If (like us) in the days before you were in Salzburg, the view from the top of Innsbruck will disappoint you, because the old city has been incorporated and suffocated by the new one, so that what will remain imprinted are the ugly roofs of modern condominiums. The admission ticket is included in the Innsbruck Card (highly recommended) and therefore it is anyway worthwhile to spend half an hour.

This is the tower of the old town hall and the balcony you climb to was a guard post. The visit is included on the Innsbruck card. To get to the balcony by climbing a 133 step spiral staircase from the first floor of the tower. The good thing is that there are two staircases in the tower so you don't have to pass people coming down. It's ok climbing as all inside. The balcony has a very solid stone floor and side and then netting above so it doesn't actually feel too bad. The views over the old town are lovely and there are some good guide pictures to show you what you are looking at.

It's worth the climb for the 360 degree views over Innsbruck and up to the mountains. There are two seperate staircases - one for up and one for down, which is a bonus. Can be a bit crowded on the viewing platform, but that's to be expected as it is narrow. Definitely worth the entrance fee.

This is the place to go if you want to see great views of Innsbruck. However, to get to the top is an enormous amount of steps. However, once you get to the top it is all worthwhile as the views of the town and the mountains.
