All resorts in Zillertal are great. But in Mayrhofen (Penken bahnen) it usually crowded and very crowded. And due to the resort location in spring you get wet and heavy snow on lower slopes. Hochzillertal is a great alternative. You can travel with train or the ski bus there. You will find amazing view, wide slopes (mostly red but nice and easy). It is not crowded, with two gondolas operating from valley you will get up in no time. In the central station you can find huge new restaurant and bar with huge terrace with sun and view.

One of the remarkable features is Z-slope taking it you get to central station from any slope on the resort.

They have amazingly many slopes and it is very accessible also for people who are beginners. The lifts are in perfect condition and very fast. It costs about 50€ a day for adults and 25€ for children. Rental in Kaltenbach next to the lift is about 25€ a day. Ofc there are offers for groups and for longer periods of time.

It is a very good ski area for families as well as for lonely skiers. The pistes are very well maintained, the restaurants are new and the people are friendly.

We spent 4 days in this area on the end of january 2019.There was a plenty of nature snow, any technical snow, 2days blue sky, few people and absolutely perfect maintained slopes. 3 ski areas Hochzillertal-Kaltenbach,Hochfugen and Spieljoch very well connect by lifts or cable cars gives you a perfect possibilities for skiing. Nice black slopes and wide red slopes for everybody.

In the first half of this valley, this is the best ski area to me and my family. Do not forget the part on the right.

There are 3 ski areas in 10 km around: Mayerhofen, Zillertal arena and Hochzillertal. Between Dec-Feb is good all of them, but with the start of March, sun has a power and snow is not so gut at Zillertal Arena and Mayerhofen. But upper part od Hochzillertal is sooo good. Perfect for families.

Enjoyable good quality ski area with plenty to do and short queues - at least out of children's holidays. Can ski several peaks and connect with Hochfuegen ski area.

Easy access by car, train or bus via Ziller Valley (Zillertal). Main access town of Kaltenbach - Stumm

Mainly blue and red runs with some black runs. Ski schools available.
