The Original Sound of Music Tour in Salzburg

2,661 reviews
The original The Sound of Music tour is the top choice for fans of the iconic musical, visiting all the most memorable filming locations from the movie. Admire magnificent views of the Austrian Lake District; visit Mirabell Gardens, Mondsee Cathedral, and Lake Wolfgang; and sing along with the soundtrack on the tour bus.

We were passing through here on our way to the fort and with our Salzburg pass we decided to pop in (fee is €2 otherwise). You have to climb steep steps to get to the top and the view is great. Inside there isn't much to see. I wouldn't say I recommend it as there are much more interesting things to see in Salzburg. The cemetery outside the catacombs (which you can enter for free) is absolutely stunning so I would say, save your penny and just walk through the cemetery.

We have been to many catacombs and they are usually filled with more macabre items . This is just a little rocky church up some uneven steps

This is not for the unsteady or claustrophobic - and watch out if you're tall: there are low ceilings and door frames. However if you're able to cope with approximately 100 steps, pay the 2 euros that lets you climb up to 2 chapels, cut in to the rock face behind St Peter's Cemetery. You get great views across Salzburg from a small terrace about half way up. No one knows exactly when the Catacombs were first created, but it's reckoned the lower chapel was at least mid 15th century and the higher chapel is even older.

I included much of my discussion about this attraction in the Cemetery. This is easily overlooked but a neat little attraction where you can see how they carved things into the mountain. It also has a great view of the cemetery and perfect for pictures.

pretty cool, only a few dollars entry fee, very eerie and very old; i believe that relatives of Mozart and Haydn are buried here, interesting views of the cemetery, well worth a brief visit.
