Many train stations are old and archaic, with steps everywhere and minimal signage to let you know where to connect. Salzburg's HBF is an exception. It is well laid out, reasonably clean and a snap to get around.

We rode the train from Zurich to Salzburg and then a day late on to Vienna. The train station was clean and well laid out. The board was clear and easy to read and understand.

Yes, there are almost hourly services. Please check other posts where there is useful information about cheaper fares. There are private trains which are cheaper.
