A beautiful town to wander around, it is picturesque with lots of beautiful buildings and the surrounding mountains. We first walked through at night time during the Christmas Markets, everywhere was lit up and was so pretty. The monuments and fountains were covered in large see-through pyramids to protect them from the harsh weather, but it's done in a way... More

A beautiful and historic old town. Much more history than just Mozart's birthplace. A number of different smaller Christmas Markets in December

Salzburg should be on everyone's bucket list. The old town is charming, spotless, and exudes old world character at every turn. It is especially festive this time of year as it is beautifully decorated throughout for the Advent/Christmas holidays---lights, fir trees, colorful decorations, choirs singing carols, brass bands playing Christmas tunes all in a midieval town environment as pretty as... We travelled Germany and Austria visiting Christmas markets along the way. While not Nurenberg, it is still a wonderful market in a beautifully decorated setting...and Old Town, with its painted facades and architecture, is gorgeous.

Beautiful and authentic city. We took lovely walkings inside the city. Advent is very nice here, but it's a good travel target in every season.

Lots of streets and alleys with stores, restaurants, bars, museums and lots to do. Stay at least 2 nights here to get the experience in to maximum potential. Here on 12.4, 12.5, 2016 and the 9 Christmas Markets are all jammed with people. the Doctor hit me with a helpful vote

Many trains easily accessible from both town centers. This is a charming town, beautiful historic Cathedral, and easy walk up to the castle with great views of the town. If you only have half a day, this is a worthwhile excursion.

Lovely place for a walk around and some sightseeing. Few museums, Christmas Museum is a definite must especially when visiting christmas market. Lovely cathedral and cathedral museum also worth visiting. Christmas market is quite ok, Germans ones are much bigger and more festive but its still a lovely one just bit smaller.

Old town is lovely and intuitive to maneuver, but the market stalls are not very special. While there are some crafters, a majority of the wares are imported. I was disappointed to discover my new hat was made in China. I guess I'm spoiled by the other quaint markets in the small villages I've explored this year

We spent several hours in the Old Town of historic Salzburg; when in the area, it is not to be missed. We took a train from Munich to Salzburg in the morning and returned later in the afternoon. During the time we spent in Salzburg we were able to visit a number of the beautiful churches, experience the Christmas Market,... More
