The Original Sound of Music Tour in Salzburg

2,656 reviews
The original The Sound of Music tour is the top choice for fans of the iconic musical, visiting all the most memorable filming locations from the movie. Admire magnificent views of the Austrian Lake District; visit Mirabell Gardens, Mondsee Cathedral, and Lake Wolfgang; and sing along with the soundtrack on the tour bus.

This fountain is located in one of the most important squares of Salzburg, located between the town and the church as well as the Residenz occupied by the Prince Bishop of Salzburg. It is an impressive fountain in an impressive location with horses emerging from the water. With all of the important buildings surrounding, it was made for pictures.

Almost 500-years old fountain in the middle of Residenzplatz. Unfortunately the fountain is currently encased in some protective plates. Perhaps under restoration. The same is true for many other fountains in the historic centre of Salzburg albeit they are covered in transparent casing.

The almost “Square” place listening to the name of “Residenzplatz” is located in the historic centre of Salzburg, and is enclosed by the “Salzburg Cathedral” in the south and the “Alte Residenz” in the west. To the east is the “Neue Residenz” who is a Renaissance building who has been erected from the year 1588 onwards, with its prominent “Bell Tower”. The adjacent Mozartplatz leads us to the “Salzburg Museum. The “Residenzbrunnen” in the centre of the square was designed by Tommaso di Garona and erected between the year 1656 to the year 1661. The upper basin is topped by a “Triton” statue ejecting the waters upwards. Made out of “Unterbergs” limestone (Untersberger Marmor), it is considered the largest Baroque fountain in Central Europe.
