A beautiful place. I spent a lot of time in the church during my trip. Planning on another trip to Salzburg next summer and I am planning to return to the Nonnberg Convent.

Lovely Abbey with history specific to Maria von Trapp. Visited as part of a Sound of Music themed bike tour. Beautiful views of the city. We were allowed to go inside the Abbey and courtyard. Worth while, but even more so for sound of music...More

It was a grand ascent up the winding steps to this tranquil institution. The origins of the convent are somewhat shrouded in history but it has been here for many centuries. Beautifully maintained headstones are to be seen around it. With Gothic type architecture that...More

To get to the Convent, you must climb (not every mountain, but it feels like it). When we first saw the Convent we were on a city tour and it was pointed out to us. Later we walked to it on our own from the...More

It's a nice, steep climb up the hill to reach the Abbey. We took a roundabout route getting here after visiting the Old Town. It was very quiet but we only walked around the outside since it was late in the day. The views of...More

There are 2 walks up to the Convent, one through residential area (recommended), and one through the Cathedral (which is definitely worth seeing, too). The gate to the Abbey was used in several scenes in the Sound of Music. The chapel, which is open to...More

Yes, it's a bit of a walk (OK, climb) up to the nunnery but so very worth it for the amazing altar (pay .50 euro in the box to the right side to get the lights to turn on). There also are some nice Roman...More
