I found the convent very beautiful inside, and its deco was really warm and comforting inside - but the lighting was weak and on a rainy day it felt almost creepy inside there. I believe if I visited on a sunny day it would be a different story because more people would have been in there (me and my girlfriend... More

This is a beautiful place, well worth the effort to visit. You can simply walk up or take the funicular up to the fortress and walk along the cliff face to it. You can see much more than the Sound of Music tour guide would let on. You can walk through the gate and admire the lovely courtyard or quietly... More

Listed as the oldest Convent in the Germanic speaking countries, Nonnberg is a beautiful place to visit. The hours it is open to the public appear to be irregular and tied into various church services. It is not regularly open throughout the day. We walked up there in the morning only to find that the chapel was closed and wouldn't... More

My wife and I walked here on a rainy day in May. The grounds are quiet, and the sanctuary interior was dark and simple. As we wandered around, we began to hear the soft singing of nuns. Lovely and reminiscent of some scenes from the Sound of Music.

We enjoyed our time around the outside of the gates and went into the church. It was beautiful and quiet. Allowed a nice moment to give thanks for everything.

We just visited here and as a Sound of Music fan I thought it was beautiful, however it doesn't seem to be taken care of properly. For a donation the altar will light up.

I had a day on my own to explore Salzburg and went to various sound of music locations. I took the many many steps up to the convent and it was worth it. It was peaceful with breathtaking views of Salzburg and the surrounding hills and mountains. The church itself was empty so I took the opportunity to sit a... More

This convent is a short walk from the city center, really only accessible by foot. It's well worth the climb up the few flights of stairs. The church and grounds are really nice. At the back of the chapel are ancient frescoes that can be viewed by depositing 50 cents into a machine that turns on the lights so they... More

I found it very interesting as I am a fan of 'Sound of Music' and was curious to know the convent where the "real Maria" has attended and so I was happy to know it but, as I had already read, as the convent is still active, it is not exactly a touristic spot and so it is not prepared... More

We took the Sound of Music tour and we drove by the Abbey from below. We did not actually make it up to the Abbey on the tour itself. I didn't understand why until after the tour, we walked up the Abbey by ourselves. There is a sign at the Abbey that kindly requests that no tours go through the... More
