Another of the many attractive churches in Salzburg, but difficult to get a view of due to how compact the area around it is.

The full splendor is only revealed from the inside. As with many churches, different epochs of architecture mix, due to the countless renovations and extensions of the "original" church.
Today's Franciscan Church consists of the Romanesque nave basilica with a beautiful ribbed vault. Adjacent to this is the late Gothic and delicate star rib vault. Imposing and impressive inside.

The Franszikanerkirche is barrier-free accessible for everyone. In contrast to many other places of worship, the church does not cost any entry fee. However, you can make a small donation at the entrance to the church if you want.

What it lacks in size compared to the Cathedral it makes up in height and design. It was originally the high vaulted section with the altar. An addition was made for more seating but it really gives the church an odd design. The best part is the original building with the high roof and tower. While the inside is beautiful with several side chapels and great stain glass, it is the vaulted ceiling and five support columns that make this a Salzburg MUST SEE. It is what distinguishes the church and makes it unique, along with is Gothic design in a Baroque city.

In my opinion, this one even more beautiful than the main Cathedral in town and very unique with it's 12 chapels around alter - never have seen this! All different, wonderful history, great location, no crowds, free! A must see in my opinion in Salzburg!!

Large, Gothic church but has a serene feel to it. If you come at mass you can hear the organ, which is beautiful.

This is an interesting church, with some very old paintings on parts of some walls as well as more typical Austrian church style. The organ is huge; we were lucky that the organist for that evening's concert was practising whilst we were visiting so got a sense of the lovely sound.

A large church but its entry was hardly noticeable walking up the street as it is so unimposing. But sometimes it is the surprise at finding something so much better than the exterior suggests. Inside we thought beautiful.

The feel of this church is different - serene and soaring. It is old and has a certain roughness and simplicity that sets it apart from the other churches - for example, the Salzburg Cathedral just a block or two away. We had a treat in that the organist was working through a couple of passages - sort of like our own private organ concert. Peaceful. Few visitors.

Treat yourself to Franziskanerkirche's elegant simplicity; you won't be disappointed.

This lovely church is just BEAUTIFUL. It's smaller than the cathedral just a couple blocks away, but every bit as pretty.
