Very nice and simple church, nicely built but not ancient. It sit right in the Historic City of City Centre of Salzburg.

Franziskanerkirche or Franciscan Church is Gothic in nature...there is architecture from various time periods going back to the Romantic era. There is a marble altar that is dated to 1561 and another altar made of red marble and gold. No visits during Mass time.

This place has a huge main tower dome visible from outside but when you enter the roof is very much lower so you wonder what is going on until you walk to the front where it soars magnificently to the very high cupola.

I visited when this was full of tour groups, so go in the morning or perhaps just before closing. The cathedral is stunning and it often hosts concerts. Look for the 7 organs, including the spot where Mozart once worked.

Stumbled across this church when walking around the city centre and was pleasantly surprised. The interior was stunning and so detailed and you wouldn't expect it to look like that from the outside. Well worth a visit if you're in the area.

Whilst exploring Salzburg Old Town it is certainly worth popping into, to admire the majestic and beautiful interior. Again free but a lot quieter than the main cathedral.

The Franciscan Church is one of the oldest churches in Salzburg. It seems as if the church consist of 2 buildings: a romanesque and central aisle and a gothic much higher choir.

This church is quite unique compared to other churches you will visit in the region. It was the coldest church we entered. The carved white walls and columns make the more ornate alter and dome stand out as points of focus. The benches with the leaning backs were nice to use while admiring the ceiling.

This church was by far my favorite in Salzburg. I would dare to say that it was even more special than the Dom. The mix of Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque was well played and thought out. The altar was beautiful, but the ceiling was amazing. It reminded me of beehives. I found this church so inspiring that I felt the... More
