City Museum
Jul 2019
Pretty standard city museum that gives good info on Salzburg's history and culture. You can see it all relatively quickly. Good to buzz through and even better if it's hot or raining outside. Breeze through and take your time.

Part of the Salzburg card package. If time short, better things to see.

The building of the Neue Residenz on the Residenzplaz next to the Cathedral houses the Salzburg museum. The Building itself along with the Glockenspiel and history is the best part of it. Our family was not particularly excited by the museum. It is included in the Salzburg card, so the visit cost nothing extra, but if your time is short, there are better things. It had some great medieval religious art, as well as some different modern art. It also has a good outdoor platform overlooking the Residenzplaz. The only thing I wish I could have done was the bell tower tour. Outside of that, I am not sure if this is worth the time. However I did love the building exterior and history.

Really helps understand Salzburg

Highly recommended if you are interested in the story of this City. It was a real centre for princes and the church, but fell away as other cities took away power, until railways and tourism brought new life. The story is linked to art through the ages. The restored panorama painting is spectacular... apparently the only one of its kind left in the world. Good value at €9 for both.

Museum was quite nice with a good mix of many objects. Everything from military items to paintings to some furniture and period clothing. Is not huge so can view in a few hours.

I would say you definitely have to visit this Museum. Modern, large, and lots of info about the Salzburg past. It can take you time to visit if you like to browse taking your time, don't go last minute. I think it's a must with the Salzburg Pass. Great in case you like Architecture for example. Lots of nice pictures.

Modern, Huge museum
Aug 2019
If you are into this, it will take 2 hours to complete it. So many artifacts, movies to watch, everything from history to the modern age is here.
This is part of inclusions in Salzburg card, do allocate adequate time to this.

Went for the temporary exhibit of Egon Schiele but the rest of the museum was even better. Lots to learn about this beautiful city and its history....fun interactive displays with local people. Wonderful stories about trolls and fairies :D

Great overview

Salzburg has had a long history (like its roots in salt mining) and wasn’t always part of the Austrian Empire, so if you want to learn a few things, swing by. It’s more than worthwhile.
